Graphics Card

Dont think PSU is gonna be a problem, got a spare 500w for the graphics card and a 850 (i think) for the rest.

How big os your case?

LOL I could never afford a 8800GTS+ so I say to myself... Just be glad I don't own a PS3  looks at price of PS3 games :(

E4400 || p965 DS3 || 8600GTS || 2GB DDRII 800 || 250GB HDD - that would be just enough for me :) nice price & value would do well at 1024*768 or 1280*1024
PC FTW 4 EVA!

why go for AM2 while the Core2Duo's are so cheap now?

Why go for anything now? The latest and greatest are gonna come out sometime this year. If you're willing to wait then rather wait to see what gets released by AMD and Intel.

Also DDR3 motherboards are starting to show up now.

Er just saw the post above mine when I quoted this.. refer to that. :)

The 6000+ for R1780 is a great price, it rivals/beats a similar Core 2 chip I'm sure.

IMO core 2 Duo is the Best :) AMD had to go to 6000+ cause the X2 is so crap :) im benchies I have seen the E6600 kills just about every X2!

Oh! just something to think about, Don't waste money on stuff you're never goning to need :D I mean don't go and buy a QX6800 and then only use it to play Counter-Strike :p [Belive it I have freinds that do that...]

Rolf I have seen R4000.00 PC's that play games well :)

The X1950Pro is in a different league. Especially at higher resolutions.

Look at the benchmarks at Anandtech. Puts the 8600GT/GTS against all the other cards, 8800GTS included.

The 8600GT cards now go for R1100, possibly less, and they overclock very well. I don't think it's a bad card any more at the new prices, it's just a bit under mid range performance, they basically don't have a mid range card, just upper (8800GTS) and lower (8600GT) midrange.

The 8600GTS imo isn't worth it, doesn't OC as well and you can get a 8600GT almost up to it's level.

Oh. so what to buy.. either OC a 8600GT or try get a 8800GTS. That's if you value DX10, but I wouldn't want to miss out on Crysis etc..

Only down side is that the 8600GTS is DX10 ready while, X1950 is only DX9:(

Well when the 9xxx Series comes out the 8 series should see a price drop! :)

At www.take2.co.za, I was also surprised. Apparently other places might have it even cheaper, someone said R1600. www.sybaritic.co.za also have it for that price, if you need something in JHB. If you're really from PE.. pfft. :p

I've got a 3500+ single core atm, it's a bit depressing seeing how quickly (and cheaply) the dual and quad core stuff is coming.

no the 9xxx series is out in november

x1950 is only beating the 8800gts in some of those tests because there is no AA or AF

add into those tests 4 aa and 8 AF or 16 AA and 16 AF the 8800gts will smoke that card
