Graphics Card

Why go for anything now? The latest and greatest are gonna come out sometime this year. If you're willing to wait then rather wait to see what gets released by AMD and Intel.

Also DDR3 motherboards are starting to show up now.

ROFL! like I say wait & save and you always going to be behind! *I jus t got a DDR3 mobo & RAM! Woot! Oh! wait here comes DDR4 ;)*
as for DDR3 I see that Gigabyte is making all thier Intel Mobo's C2D 45Nm & DDR2/3 freindly :) atleast we save some $$$ there :)

Silly and somewhat random question... I'm also in the market for a new graphics card but... uh... eh... I was just wondering if someone could tell me the difference between:
http://www.take2.co.za/product.php?id=2644496
and
http://www.take2.co.za/product.php?id=2440793

Which one is better? Why? And... uh... this stuff seriously hurts my brain.

faster lest ram or slower more ram - brings you to this Q, does it help to have fast ram but what happens of its used up VS slower and there is still more ram left on the graphix card ?

benches will show ;)

why go for AM2 while the Core2Duo's are so cheap now?

I just got myself a dual core 3800+ AMD with 2GB of 667MHz and a overclocking friendly motherboard for R1800. Intel would have been at least R300 more (and then it would most likely not even have been so overclockable and have onboard graphics that are fairly adequate (6100) and enables me to run my 3 screen setup easily).

lol... Domo arigato Necuno :p I changed my mind and am going after this instead:
http://www.take2.co.za/product.php?id=2183148
It seems like a good choice in the end...

Thank you again Necuno :p Nice to know someone tries to help wittle ol' me :P

Much better choice. Roughly the same card can be had (XFX/Legend brand) for R3000 at a few places (www.computersonly.co.za and www.prophecy.co.za), but the 320MB version. If you arent running at resolutions higher than 1280 most of the time, I don't think R1500 is worth it at all for the 640MB card.

hmmm... I was originally considering the 320MB card, but I rationalised it as, I'm already spending R3k on it, I might as well spend the extra R1.5K and get my money's worth... I don't want to look back and go, "Ahhhh bugger, I should've gotten the other one" ... I don't know, I'm silly like that...

Thank you for your response Ekhaatvensters, it's really appreciated :D Though, is there any other card you'd suggest? (affordable, I mean) :p

At the moment, once you reach around R3000, there is basically the 8800GTS or the ATI 2900XT for R4400-ish. It's a possibility over the 640MB version of the 8800GTS, looking at a few reviews again, I'd probably go with this card if you were going to spend R4500 already.

*hiss* *hiss* *grr* *hiss* ATi = eeeeeeviiiiillllll ... I'm a nVidia fanboy, personally :p I read a lot of reviews on the 8800GTS and it seems like a grand card, so I'm optimistic as heck about it... Thanks... You killed off my doubts :D

point taken... i myself am still running a 3500+ single core 939 system. not the fastest, but gets the job done...

if performance isnt an issue, AMD is good stuff. i like AMD so i'm hoping their new cpu's will be good :D :D
