I don't think that is what they meant by 'tab overload';
Firefox generally performs worse anyway, whether there are a few tabs open or many.

I would move to chrome in an instant if it's tab support was better, or there was tabmix plus equivilent.

all new tabs (new tab and ctrl-click) to open in background, next to current tab.
pushing enter on the address bar opens tab in background, next to current tab.
bookmark clicks to open in new tab in background, next to current tab
