Hi there

I recently switched to Vodacom for my smartphone (using a 1GB per month for 12 months promotion), and I must congratulate Vodacom on its network performance. Great coverage and great speeds. I am using Skype for calls, and it works well (no need for voice contracts any longer :D).

Well done Vodacom. Now for some great data package for dongles ;)

Vodacom Network is very good, but the pricing of data bundles makes most people to switch to Cell C or 8ta.

How much they pay you? :D
I wish :D

The 1GB for twelve months prepaid deal from Vodacom was perfect for me. I was using a 10GB for R199 8ta SIM in my phone, but the wife protested vehemently because she was not able to call me (the 8ta data SIMs do not have voice services). 10GB was also overkill for a smartphone, and that data can be put to better use on a laptop with a dongle.

Sadly Vodacom are about the only semi-reliable connection I can get at home.

My Vodacom connection is pathetic. It goes straight to voice mail in certain areas.

boss,

what is the point of great network performance when you cant afford it? Prices are through the roof, so I better be able to freakin skype. And this is kinda my point here, you should be able to skype. Its not great network performance, you are simply getting what you paid (a lot) for, but we as South Africans are so used to sub-par delivery that we think meeting standard requirements for delivery = great network performance.

Something to think about

Not really. It is easy to have an oversubscribed, slow network as is the case in many developed countries (including the US).

Unless you invest enough in a network (radio access, transmission, international capacity etc) it will become congested. There is currently massive mobile data growth, and from my experience Vodacom is keeping ahead of the curve. This should be commended - it is by no means guaranteed.

I would obviously love lower prices as well, but for now R90 a month for a fast network with good coverage works well. I am unlikely to use more data on my smartphone, and my calls will be VoIP based. Not a bad price to serve my mobile needs.

Well said RPM, however you cannot compare us to the US. They have like 30 000 sites in a region/state, compared to VC's 7000-8000 in the whole of RSA. All the points you have made are valid ones, congrats to VC if someone like you can give them good praise.

That said, I hope you arent getting a kick-back :P

I am in agreement with RPM as my line of business makes exclusive use of mobile data and voice whilst travelling extensively through the Western Cape. I have tried all the other networks in this respect but they fail in one or more aspects in spite of costing less. Vodacom has been the one delivery data/voice services of consistant quality in my view in spite of costing more. Thank you Vodacom.

Vodacom has the best coverage, and best network capacity from all GSM service providers. I get 13Mbps at home and 8Mbps at work. Absolutely brilliant. Pricing is insane, but this Double your summer thing is really good.
