Great news for Android smartphone users

Google has given smartphone makers explicit instructions stating that if their Android device is popular, they must provide OS updates for at least two years.

This is according to a report by The Verge, which referenced confidential contracts from Google.

From the way I read it, there is no guarantee of an actual update to android, more that there have to be security updates...

While this obligates the manufacturer, I have found in SA that the Networks drag their feet in releasing updates (looking at you, Vodacom).

While I'm not a fan of Apple their approach to updates is much better where they bypass the Network

Oddly enough, the Chinese brands are quite good at updates! Huawei & Hisense are top of the list!

Lol, will never buy a phone unless it's at least a year or two old. This is worthless. They can at least provide 5 years and 10 years security updates.
