Great uncertainty surrounding MNP

When were these calls made? Because if they were today, I gather that MNP are not really with us yet. Surely the telecomm operators should have well defined price structures and costs by now, not 'most likely be R100'?!

There's no mention of Virgin Mobile in this article ? ;)

I foresee a problem when I port my 084-kiddies away from the call-dropping-clutches-of-CellC-clusters: I used to be on contract with CellC, but after 25 months caged inside a contract I got CellC to switch my sim card over to pre-paid, the strange thing is that everytime I have to call CellC about a pre-paid issue, I'm repeatedly told that I am not a pre-paid customer bcos it [still] comes up as a contract on their system, so I can only imagine what CellC will tell the service provider that I port to...'this is a contract number and blackmail money is required before CellC will let go of the number'...

Dunno if anyone caught Morning TV this morning on SABC2 before 0700, but Leanne Mannas was chatting to some dude about MNP and she basically incorrectly said that Virgin was not involved. The dude sort of set her straight but not categorically so (he seemed uncertain himself).
Then Vuyo Mbuli makes the statement flippantly that theres no real difference in the rates anyway.

aah,ICASA, do you think we could have this sytem when Neo comes online?
The mass exodus of Telscum subscribers would amuse me for many years to come!! :D

Both MTN and Vodacom’s helpdesks indicated that there will most likely be a charge of around R 100-00 for a new SIM when migrating to their network.
And they cost like R1.99? Still trying to take money for nothing from potential customers.

Just what we need to drive competition in the market. If the people in charge doesn't know anything for certain then just imagine how confused the customers must be.
