Greek national team robbed

This is quite bad for SA . They should really learn not to keep piles of cash lying around - that is just asking for trouble.

A group of footballers from the Greek national team have had money stolen from their hotel rooms in Umhlanga, north of Durban.

Around R20 000 was taken from the players rooms at the Beverly Hills Hotel on Tuesday night.

The police’s Vishnu Naidoo said despite the Greek football players not wanting to open a case, police are looking into the incident.


“We have now delegated high level detectives to interview the players so that we can bring about a criminal case and have it investigated,” he said.


The robbery came within hours of another incident in which three journalists from Portugal and Spain were robbed in Magaliesburg.


While two reporters slept through the intrusion on Tuesday morning, one woke up and was held at gunpoint while his equipment and cash was stolen.


Four suspects have since been arrested and some of the stolen goods have been recovered.

Petty crime is nothing major. Let's hope the deaths do not come!!!!!!!! Petty crime is expected i think anywhere in the world. Violent brutal murders not so much. Keep the faith!!!!

Well I'd hope there'd be no deaths related to the footballers themselves - remember many of them have employed their own intelligence services because they do not trust the SAPS to do a good job of protecting their players. Of course Bob Woolmer did die at the Cricket WC... hmm...

There are things called Trust and Respect, but this being South Africa - neither exist. i am sure the teams are being constantly bombarded on how safe SA is that it would be pointless to put your money in a Safe deposit box - as there is no crime in SA at all!

Many cultures are very trusting of strangers and what they are told - and to call the people stupid for not distrusting everyone they come across is a very South African trait. Perhaps the dude forgot his wallet on the bed, does that make the person devoid of common sense? No-where does it say 'Money was lying about'

I by no-means say its a SA only thing.. what I AM commenting on is your assumption that people dont have common sense if they leave stuff in a LOCKED hotel room. Passing judgement without knowledge of that really happened.
