I'm actually very sure you're the only person who believes this, if you really do. You should realise that there isn't some imaginary group of blind optimists who claim there's no crime in SA. I actually think someone made that up on MyADSL one day and its stuck.

I think they want to keep this low key and get on playing football. In order to appease his hosts and get his team to forget the incident and concentrate on the game he said what any coach would have said diplomatically. Still this doesn't mean that their opinion of SA hasn't decreased or that perhaps it wasn't low in the first place. The West will have low expectations for this cup. SA is mostly a DEVELOPING NATION where the majority of the population live in squalor. I certainly wouldn't make too much of a deal out of this theft with poverty of those proportions just minutes away from the hotel.
 
To expect the criminals to give up crime because of all the "gees" and the prez said so won't happen. I mean, we are talking about people who beat little babies up, gut old people. But yeah, I really hope there is not any international visitors that get murdered. There is already 2 English tourists dead, but that was due to a bus accident.
 
Another train of thought....maybe the Greek players are so poor, they lied about the whole thing....try to get less business for SA and more for them...and maybe score 20k;-)

I'm happy for the entrepreneur. Look I'm not happy but at least 1. No one was hurt (even psychologically). 2. The money stolen was official probably. 3. This makes the crime situation appear in the press and embarrasses the government a little bit - that's good because if embarrassed hopefully they'll enforce stricter security now and hopefully after the cup too.
 
I see a lot of people questioning why these people have so much money "in one big pile" in their rooms, but think about this people, $25 000 from the Colombians, and now R20 000 from Greece, divide that into a team of 30 odd players and staff and you get around < R1 000/$1 000 per player, and most of us will have this much somewhere on us while on holiday somewhere.

This is just sad, they are not even safe inside their own hotel rooms. Spain is set to be here in Potch next week and rumour has it they will not set foot outside their hotel and training ground (which is on the same premisses), and who can blame them.
