Green light in jozi sky

I'm no expert but from the hundreds of Iraqi and Afghanistan ground explosion vids I've seen, I'm almost tempted to say that Asteroid exploded mid air since the explosion was illuminated by the clouds whereas something that explodes on the ground doesn't have the same effect.
 
i have not gone through all the posts but was there a warning announcement before this thing hit?
 
ok so no one saw it coming and no one except an amateur astronomer discovered a new dark "scar" on the surface of Jupiter.

whooo!! i have soooo much faith in our people watching the skies and getting paid billions for early warning systems and what not.

get your life in order people you could be dead in the next few minutes.

This was my initial reaction.surely something that 'big' would pop up on some sort of rader.i mean imagine it impacted in a residential area.... would have loved to have seen the questions asked then.
 
i looked a some other videos of the green light thingy and it was a big flash so why was there no big news over it or did i miss it?

has it been found, whatever it was or was this just another Tunguska Event?

and an astronomer says it was a meteor that was 90km up in the sky and if you heard a bang then it disintergated, well thanks for that info after the fact how about a frikkin heads up before the fact next time.

@wayne: The sad reality is that the early warning systems don't get billions in funding, their funding is miniscule. I read somewhere that they can only monitor about 10% of the sky at any one time. Due to limited funding they also only focus on larger objects (think 100m is the minimum target at this stage). As for radar only military grade radar could possibly have detected it. It's unknown if ours did.
 
granted but they still get paid to do a job. be it asteroid watch or any other space programme we need to be warned about potential threats. tell a community that the rock that landed in a local neighbourhood that was destroyed that no one saw it cause it was not big enough to be picked up.

if that light in the jozi video was anything to go by then smething big happened.
