Greenlab closing down

I just got an email that Greenlab is closing down.

Hi All,

This is a very sad day for us here at Greenlab. We have decided that as of the end of the month we will be closing the site indefinitely. Hosting costs have just gotten way to expensive and will a lack of proper donations we cannot afford keeping the site going.



We really do apologise profusely for the inconvenience this will cause.

Just a thought, but how much would have the hosting have cost them?

Any idea how much traffic the site generated? Pretty easy to calculate from there.

Well just looking at Hetzner for shared hosting its R439/month which includes 5GB transfer and then R190 for each additional GB!

Although according to the whois it looks like they might be hosted by Openweb, didn't think Openweb offered hosting?

I joined them on a trial basis and after trying once gave up on them. However, I still receive an email addressed to me with everybody else's email addresses included.

I know that this has happened before and was written off as a geniune mistake.

Stop making mistakes and stop circulating my email address to everybody!

Another one bites the dust....Can't believe hosting is that expensive!!! Donations will never keep a company going in SA, we are too small and the cost of living is ever increasing...then we still have to pay Telkom for screwing us....so...yeah...never going to happen. Unless you make it a subscription sort of thing..Not sure about the legal side though...

Is local p2p ever going to get it's time to shine? What the point of having local bandwith if theres not much to download?

Hi

I'm a Greenlab Administrator and would like to ensure you that Greenalb is not closing down. This was a fool with no life sending out that email as a prank on behalf of Admin.

This person might have gotten hold of the email addresses earlier this year when an email was mistakenly sent with the addresses showing.

The site is not closing and we do apologize for this.

Yeah...if you say so, dude. Greenlab won't close down. And Greenlab does not take money from anyone...it's called "donations". Ever heard of the word? Get a dictionary...if you can read that is...

I make a donation whenever I can, out of my own free will.
