I got an email from Gridhost saying my domain needs to be renewed but I never heard or used them before

Gridhost is the hosting division of WebAfrica (which now just does connectivity)

Exactly what he said. WA's hosting department is now operating under a new name as a separate entity. They have nothing to do with each other anymore.
