Gripes with OsX Mavericks

Did you upgrade from .8 or was it a clean install? I have been tinkering with old mail. Did the following:
(1) Exported all mail then quit
(2) Renamed ~/Library/Mail to Mail-OLD
(3) Setup accounts again
(4) Smart count is correct
(5) Import old mail -> This is what will reveal the problem I am sure. Standing by...

Upgrade - I never do a clean install if I can help it.

I tried doing a clean install when I created a fusion drive in my MBP but there were too many issues so I ended up cloning my backup drive onto it instead.
 
LOL a lot of people came here expecting Mavericks Revue Bar. Perhaps its time to arrange a myBB meet there? :D
 
OK how is the memory compression feature of OSX Mavericks? Does it help or is it only a gimmick?

Any input?

I'm sticking to Mt Lion for as long as I can. On the other machine it's SL all the way.

Just keep in mind that no feature should ever be seen in isolation -- all the new energy related changes need to work in unison to achieve better battery life and app/system performance.

Currently it's by in large still a "gimmick" as all apps have to be adjusted and recompiled to take advantage of these new features.

Btw you can fairly easily identify which apps can currently take advantage of the new features by looking at the activity monitor: typically those showing under the energy tab as supporting App Nap are capable of the full feature set.

Most of Apple's apps have been adjusted, so you do get some if not minor benefit, but this one really needs more time.

Ps. You just IMO shooting yourself in the foot by staying on SL and ML -- Mavericks has certainly resolved most of the SL to ML gripes.

I am staying with SL because my Mac Pro can't go to Mavericks and FCS 7/PS CS4 work well with SL. No need to upgrade something which works well enough. I have better ways to spend money.

My rMBP 15 machine works well enough. No need to upgrade.

Shooting myself in the foot? Not at all.

Mac Pro -- enough said.
IRO MBPr; in my experience I've found more people that were unwilling to go from SL to ML, than ML to Mavericks.

Being a slow adopter is not a problem if it suits your workflow;

I personally don't have a choice; the development side will always push me to keep up with Apple, similarly Microsoft and Google.

The CS6 design side certainly doesn't need Mavericks, much like you I guess.

The point I'm making (re foot shooting ;)) is that most of the reasons why some chose to avoid SL to ML, have been resolved in Mavericks.

Things like App Nap, Memory compression, better battery life, new APIs (SpriteKit, GCController, BTLE, ...) are currently of minimal benefit so there's no rush except of course for developers.

Its 2013, get with the times.

I don't think I've seen Plain Text email since the 90's.

It's the price of progression my friend, that's why Apple would kill it off...just like removing Optical Drives.

Don't make assumptions. My reasons for wanting to see plain text may not be so that I can climb back to 1999. When you get email with embedded images, sometimes these images are on a server elsewhere. Other times, they are bundled into the email. When you get dangerous emails, like from potential phishing, that image could be loaded from their site. If you have trusteer or rapport installed by your internet banking, either of those will register a connect to a known phishing attack and as a result suspend your online banking.

That's just a small example of the many I work with.
