Grocery Specials Thread

do you perhaps know until when?

Eish sorry I didn't check.

We only shop at Spar in emergencies and I saw the chicken fillets by chance when I walked past. Grabbed a few packs of course.

We might be heading to the hardware there tomorrow and I will run in and check if we do.

I saw 1kg Southern Style chicken pieces for R49 at Spar in Durban.

Nothing. They explained how they buy produce direct from local farmers and just resell it. They do not make any profit on those products. They sell it at cost what the farmer sells it for.

Pretty good marketing. Gives customers good value for money. All locally produced products. Uplifts local farmers and when their customers buy other stuff in their store they make money there too. Win win situation all the way.
I disagree with their explanation.

Unfortunately not in our case. They are pretty much more expensive on each and everything except when they run the odd special like this.

Got the same situation with my local spar. Always between R3-R5 more. Even seen meat on the shelves way after the sell by date.

We have two Spars within a 2km radius. The one is always more expensive but the little one isn't. Eggs are always cheaper, milk, often times yoghurt too.

In our case there is no other competition nearby except for a pathetic little PnP Mini Market that most people avoid due to very bad service. So our Spar kinda know they have the market share and they charge accordingly.

In the can we of Lyndhurst Spar, they seem consistently cheaper on these sale items. R3 for a pineapple this weekend.

Bought Half pig R29.99/kg at MeatWorld Northcliff. Not sure if deal is still available
I used to frequent there, but recently we've been going to food lovers market, the mince and chops are just better quality.

Spar Constantia Village.

R25 for 3 Beacon 80g chocolates. Fair price I guess.

I'm not really a Beacon fan,or choc for that matter, but I thought what the heck might munch on 1 or 2 whilst watching the goggle box sometimes.
