Grocery Specials Thread

Yep. Fruit & Veg / Food lovers market has it for the same price till the ~3rd of June: https://foodloversmarket.co.za/specials/

We stock up like crazy when the price falls to this level and freeze the buggers.

Don't you find it gets a bit crumbly if you freeze it ? We used to do the same but now do it to a slightly more expensive cheese like the lancewood loaf etc when those drop to R80.

Also for some reason am hooked on white cheddar now.

To a certain degree yes, but cheese is cheese is cheese. I only really see that crumbly-ness when we grate it, but even then... cheese is cheese is cheese. I also find that it helps if you thaw it out properly over like a day+. We are currently using cheese we bought back in January, so it is time to stock up again.

Ditto @ Hooked on that white cheddar.

We grate the cheese and then freeze it.

I leant this tip from a YouTuber: when buying cheese that you intend to freeze, grate it and put it in ziplock bag(s) before you freeze it. Then you don’t need to deal with trying to grate it later and dealing with the crumbling. I’ve done it and it really works well. Texture comes out just fine once left to defrost a bit.

Cheese

Grated cheese on special at Cab Foods - R59.99 for 1KG.

Shoprite and OK Furniture has a 'black friday' event again, tomorrow 08 June 2018 only. Big Red Friday is what they like to call it. Check the link to see the specials applicable to your specific area. There are some cheese up for grabs in the Western Cape - R22 for 200+100g cheese slices.

Food Lovers having a Winter Carnival sale. Some good deals on various grocery items.

Has anyone noticed the price of 2l Coke jump from R14 to R20 while Pepsi is still at R14?

In my experience, Pepsi Max is around R14 whilst the normal variant has increased to R16-17, depending on where you buy.
