Grub 2

ubuntu forums FTW

Kuk forum. Swamped by a gazillion noobs asking the same question and finding anything of use via a search is near impossible. Then there is the oh so politically correct feelgood mods/admins that make me wanna puke.

If you have a question regarding Grub2 koffiejunkie is your man IIRC.

There were some questions regarding Grub2 here a year ago and he seemed like he knew the ins and outs.

I KNEW IT!!! Ponder is a noobaphobe!! lol

I heard somewhere that the build script approach to grub2 is only on debian based systems. Does gentoo/suse/fedora/etc. also make use of similar scripts to generate the grub2 config file?

True, true... but what I like about it is that because of all the noobs, the answers are somewhat easy to come by :D
And at least some of the stupid answers can lead to some stupid things to try, or plant an idea on something to try. Hehehehe...

Most of the good clued up members left that forum due to the reasons I explained in my previous post or were banned due to frustration, they just got gatvol. It used to be good about 5yrs ago or so but has degenerated into a load of schite. Ubuntu documentation also sucks piles. If you want to see good docs/wiki look at the likes of Debian, Arch, Gentoo & the BSD's, if you can't come right with those you are an idiot :D

Young one, in a year or two's time you will feel exactly the same. Don't worry we will groom you in the dark arts :D

In all honesty I'm not a l33t linux user, I have never built my own kernel and I'm clueless with scripts etc. But I have enough experience to know what I like and what's BS. For me Ubuntu is like Idols, all flash and show but not really that great :D

I'm not even that fond of Linux, when I say Linux I'm referring to the kernel which is monolithic, I prefer micro/nanokernels. The world needs to change but that's gonna be really hard.

iirc gentoo works the same way.

What's quite interesting is that all my K/U machines are OS upgrades, and all of them are still using menu.lst. There are bits and pieces of grub2 there (including plymouth, which I hate), but I don't have the hassles of full grub2.
