GSM/GPRS Modem

This looks like the orginal GPRS card from Vodafone. It's NOT a 3G card though.

So as a GPRS card, it should work, although I'll have to check if it's certified.

If not, it'll be an unsupported item from a Vodacom perspective.

At R3k retail for a 3G card you might as well just go for the lower contract bundles, eg R250p/m as it will work out cheaper than prepaid.

(Assuming the lower bundles include the cards - do we have an answer on this?)

Any ideas yet as to whether Vodacom may consider given smaller subsides on the cards for smaller bundles. Like with cell phones, i.e. 1gig contract = card free, 500MB Contracg = card R1000, etc etc etc?

3 cheers for vodacom AGAIN!!! their radio people are at my house as we speak running tests to see if they can improve my gprs... damn. this is the service i could have only dreamed about when i had mywireless.... good ridence to that sentech nonsense... i still remember the day when the pr manager at sentech told me "they would never stoop to that level" (... participating on the myadsl forum)

IMO, Vodacom 3G customers are not only paying R600 per month for 1GB, they are also paying for the Excellent Customer Service & Support provided by v3g here, and that has to make Vodacom 3G more attractive than Sentech & WBS. Keeping customers happy & informed goes a long way towards the success of any product or service. Again v.good work v3g :)

I agree IC. I believe Vodacom are scoring big points by participating here. If I wasn't already a Vodacom customer, I would definitely be moving over. And I know I'm not the only one.

oh man the funniest thing is the poor vodacom dude at my house has now locked his keys in his car....

Nooit! That's funny - I've never managed to do that in my lifetime & I just don't understand how people manage it - must be Solar Flares or something interfering with brain waves - good thing I'm wearing my tinfoil...:D

fantastic... ive been surfing, email, messaner etc (no massive downloads) now for the last 2 weeks since the prices dropped and i called last night to see how much data ive used..... 38 bucks .. wow.

a good marketing campaign always helps, Vodacom has acquired almost the same amount of users on the iburst network in little over 1 month and a half

Not too shabby

noooone . the big difference for me is customer service... I AM SO HAPPY AT THE MOMENT ITS STUPID. even tho the speeds are ****e and its still tooo expensive. amazing what happens when the clients are looked after. i would prob still me with sentech if they had been nice to me.

Kvi....just bought myself a prepaid sim and fired up the old gprs, service from vodacom was excellent. With a bluethooth adapter and my brick (nokia 6600) i am starting to feel your joy. I kept myself entertained for around 3 hrs yesterday for R8 (Just surfing and msn).........yeeehaaah

Just looking at the uptake since price reduction proves what we have been saying on this forum for some time now, the cheaper something is the more people will use it and ultimately profits will be higher.

There is still room for improvement pricewise, imagine the uptake at say 0.60c a megabyte out of bundle ;) (imo fair for a mobile service)

If they could get the datacards down to about R1200 (imo what they are worth) then we might see a lot more users.

People will start with their cellphones as modems via bluetooth. Once modems (USB!) are down to about R500, the transfer will start.

I agree with your statement on the 60c per MB, but remember Vodacom has to buy bandwidth from Big Papa Telkom at Telkom's rates. Won't be surprised if that is'nt already close to 60c /MByte - if you keep in mind Vodacom will have to buy sufficient "datalines" to handle peak demand.

Where I move, the demand is not for 1GB of data per month, but maybe 50MB. The first question is about always will it reduce my Telkom+Vodacom account? The answer is usually "YES!"

vodacom3g: just checking the coverage map for durban........unless you live in the middle of the cbd,or umhlanga rocks 3g is only a dream......any news on rollout plans for the suburbs?????

There is quite an extensive roll-out plan for the area, coverage will increase at least "ten-fold in Phase II", was the response I got from management.

This roll-out is already in full swing and will continue for the rest of this year.

If you have a request for a specific area, please PM me and I'll pass onto the radio planning people.

Vodacom 3g: Thanks for the info, i move around the Durban Area all day so there is no specific area. I will just wait patiently untill i live in a 100% 3G land.

ok guys, im a little peeved this glorious monday morning... last night i had to use the net for a client meeting (yup on sunday evening) and i had to surf the property24 website. because i dont have 3g i am still using gprs thru phone thru bluetooth to laptop. so here we are on property24 and damn we were waiting like 3 minutes for a small page to open it was getting so so so frustrating. i then said wait a bit, screw the mtn 50 rand a meg, ive got to get this work done, swopped my sim for my mtn one and off we went cruising, pages opened instantly, faster than dialup, it was flying. yeah i probably had to fork out like 200 rand for the sesssion, but man voda gprs is so much slower than mtns. is this because the "masses" are using vodas network? and mtn's is mainly business related? and do you think mtns will also grind to a halt when there prices drop in the next couple of weeks (so mtn say). vodacom3g, the voda radio guys have already been to my house and said nothing wrong with signal or network, they say its network congestion.
