GTA IV Freezing

So... after playing about 10% of the game, I start up the game today and..... freeze after freeze..... It gets to the black loading screen and just sits :(

Strange thing after googling it seems its more the PS3 60GB had the problem.
I have a 2 month old PS3 40GB and I have the problem. Gosh I really don't feel like starting again cause the game was just getting started!

Anyone else experiencing the problem?



P.S. Please guys and girls I don't want a Fanboy war!

Update:

Ok, so I was just about to delete the gamefiles and saves, where I noticed that there were 2 gamesave files, and I remember using only one slot so I deleted the older one. Started the game up and its working again! Phew!

Hey bob, it's a universal thing, not specifically related to any one device, I saw on Kotaku that there's a 12 step fix, check it out.

lol. Well I spoke to my mates at work, xbox 360 and ps3 owners alike and a few of them have had the problem, 3 of 5 PS3 and 1 of 4 xbox 360 but my one mate got the Ring of Death when starting up his 360 last night to play his just purchased GTA 4! ROFL
But what I noticed is that all 3 of us PS3 owners have bought our PS3's in the last 3 months, so it could be a batch specific maybe?

But non the less, last night after playing a bit it froze again totally randomly, I restarted and the game started up with no loading freeze so I carried on playing, the PS3 fan started becoming louder , carried on fine , then it froze again and when restarted it got stuck at the mission loading screen. So... again frustrated and not wanting to start again I carry on with the list, so, I delete the saved game data on my PS3, reinstall and its working perfectly again, played ages and no probs yet :D
hopefully it wont happen again, I dont want anything to happen to my PS3, I love the thing too much! haha
 
A lot of useless posts. In anycase, it is a problem on both consoles.

For those having the problem on PS3, log out of PSN or disable your
network totally and see if that helps. I read somewhere about a guy
who could not get the game going after he's been playing for hours
and turns out that when he was not loged on to PSN it would work
again.

AFAIK, if the PS3 is the same as the xbox, the second save file is the autosave, I only use 1 slot to save my current game, and theres 2 saves according to my hdd info
 
Hmmm... this whole RRoD story seems very overblown. Do you know that the Xbox 360 will do that if your video cable is unplugged? Its an indication of an error, not necessarily a fault.
 
I own a PS3 60gig, have been playing some GTA IV :D

So far I've had no problems with any freezing at all *touches wood* and my overall experience has been really good.

I've only had a few FPS problems here and there which seems to change everytime i start up the game :confused:

Sometimes it will lag quite a bit, but if I restart the console/game, theres no lag at all and the game runs perfectly smooth.

Other than that, no problems at all.
 
Now ive had 1-2 problems with Disc Read Errors, yet no fps lag
 
I've had freezing problems too on my 360. It just randomly freezes for a minute or so during a mission. I assume its a bug in the code, seeing as its 360/PS3 freezing. Hasn't dampened my play too much though :D

I wonder when there'll be an update? Anyone know ...

weird cuz i have had the same thing - game will freeze for like 1 second then carry on. very rare but it has happened.

one guys at work also playing GTA on xbox has had many freezes (like needs to restart xbox) so i dunno.

I have a very new xbox which replaced my old xbox where as he has a very old one.

Could it not be a heating issue on both consoles?
 
Xbox360, had 2 freezes in about 14hrs game time, was a sysyem freeze so cold boot was in order.

Took a look at the GTA Disc .... i see the tell tale signs appearing, that circular "scratches" around the disc ... much like my other games that got plenty game time, GoW & Forza2
 
Lying down ;)

Dont boot with the CD in either ;) No kids around to scratch perfect circles in the CD :D No persons leaving their coffee mug rings on the CD's .... ;)
My Xbox has always just done that

funny you say that (and sorry to derail here). My old xbox did the same thing - Especially with GoW and Test Drive Unlimited. The new xbox doesnt do that all.

EDIT i personally think the older xboxes were flawed in many ways - what is the date of manufacture on your xbox?
 
Will take a looksy at the manufacture date tonight, but bought it last year June when in England so my only option is to buy another .... hmmm .... the Elite does look pretty ..... ;)
