Nice thinking Peapod.

To the guests still out there and debating whether to join or not - I also hung around as a guest for a while, didn't think I really had much to contribute. I don't have anything to contribute to most topics here, mainly because I know buggar all about the technology.

But whether or not you have some brilliant knowledge to contribute or not is not the entire point of MyAdsl. These are some of the benefits:

1) You can seek help for your tech problems, and are almost assured of a response within a few hours. You can also seek help for non-tech problems - say, for example, a solution to your mom's dog's itchy buttocks.

2) You can ask if others are experiencing the same problems as you.

3) Being a member has this weird effect of making you more aware of any telecom's related news. You pay more attention to stories about the industry, and this makes you learn more, and be more informed. Information = power.

4) You can contribute your opinion. Every constructive opinion is valuable, whether we agree with each other or not ["You are fat and ugly" is not constructive :)] The wider the opinions, the more we all think about the issues at hand. The more we think about the issues at hand, the stronger we are as a group.

5) MyAdsl has had success in getting Icasa to listen to the woes about ADSL. This wouldn't have happened if MyAdsl didn't have enough members. More members = more power to effect the changes the SA needs. Its a good place to come together, exchange information and build social capital. More social capital = more power to influence govt.

6) This is by far the most sophisticated, informed and helpful SA internet community I have come across. How could you not want to be a part of it?

You're right. "I'm sure I've seen you on TV before. Extreme Makeover maybe?" definitely sounds better :D

7. Be prepared that any thread you start or participate in, can be derailed in an eyewink

and 8. Don't start a new thread claiming to be the thread killer...one 1000+ off topic (and I mean off topic) thread is enough.

Welcome to our newest member, Brightboy

Well, I've finally registered after lurking around these forums for the past two years or so. I've had ADSL here since it's inception. I've found this forum very informative and interesting, a day doesn't pass without a visit. :D

I must say my hat goes off to the dedication of the main-stayers of this site in pushing for a better value for money service. I'm one of the lucky ones who can afford the service, which to me is an essential (I am a Brit now perminent resident here), but only wish, the masses could also benefit! When I left the UK 2.5 Years ago I had a 1MB connection at GBP40/mth. Broadband was fairly rare then, the change to today is remarkable. I only hope one day the same will be true here!

regards

Welcome Megabyte! 2 Years of lurking? That's gotta be some kind of record!
Are we allowed to welcome him? Wasn't he here before us?

Anyway, welcome Megabyte. I guess you already know your way around these parts :p

Welcome welcome to all of our guests.

Please do us a massive favour and if you are a regular guest, register?
Our forum's greatest strength is in our numbers. The more registered regular users of this forum we have, the more weight we have with the powers that be.

And registered users? PLEASE when our newest members join us, lets be courteous enough to answer their first posts? SLIP asked a valid question about Newservers here and we were all dead silent which is odd, because we are a noisy bunch normally!!
