Guild Wars, questions...

you mean the gold dye? how much does that go for sale at the traders?

nope, picked up a red and green dye last night. Then i picked up a gold item (you know normal, purple, gold & green class drops). Not sure what to do with it yet, salvage or sell, salvage or sell...

ohhhh... i did find one gold short bow on Sat during my laggy session, though it wasnt uber it hasnt been customized yet so it could prove useful for my ranger.

Some gold items are good, others are junk. The odds are just beter for a good item than with purple or blue. You still need to check the item to make sure it is useful for you. Do not assume it is good just because it is gold - especially when buying something from another player.

Gold dye does not drop. It is made by mixing other dyes.

any tips on defining a domination mesmer? i am currently relying on Backfire, Shatter Delusions, Chaos Storm and Empathy to do my damage.

Intend to use a mix of Mind Wrack, Backfire and Spirit Shackles when i get them available. Are there any others i should concentrate on?

From the Monk side its only Resurrect and Heal Party that will be my healing spells.

I have given up on Chaos Storm and instead use "Wastrel's Worry" for a sort of group damage and boss killer. I like to use Power Spike for interrupts, but the other interrupts are also very good. Backfire and Empathy are great in my opinion. I never leave home without them.

I am not a big fan of Mind Wrack, due to the if's involved in it doing damage. I find Shatter Delusions very hard to use, since one's timing has to be exactly right to get the best value from it, otherwise one just cancels one's own hexes, so I only tried it for a short while.

I also use Conjure Phantasm and Migraine from the Illusion skill branch. It will be a while before you get Migraine, so what I did was use Phantom Pain until I got migraine. That way I can always have one or two enemies "bleeding" badly at any time.

Energy

i'm a level 12 necro\ranger but i'm struggling to get my energy up its only on 36. Is this normal?? Or is there any tips you guys can give me to get my energy level up.

ooohh... ok... will study upcoming skills and try out combo's... i dont have access to Wastrel's Worry as yet but when i get it i will test it.

Shatter Delusions seem to work on melee fighters with active adrenalin skills, but i suppose better skills will become available later on.

my current mesmer/monk has around 44 energy @ lvl 10. Though i get something like 15 from the staff.

i dont think 36 is bad for your lvl 12 necro though maybe a better staff would help?

Noob Questions

Do you get better staff's mainly from drops or is there places to buy it from like a merchant. Havent seen any good staff to buy.

Do you guys have any good strategy's to use with a necro and which spells do you think is best. we're struggling with altheas ashes at the moment.
And reading this forum it doesnt even get a mention so i'm scared of what lies ahead:eek:

best staff are from drops, i recently sold some purple staffs but maybe have some in storage if you are interested.

dont know much about necro strategy but it mostly relies in using Blood Magic to get health back, Death Magic and Curses to cause enemies damage. A proper necro could give you more insight into that.

Athenas Ashes is a hard quest, many a time i had to tell the people i was helping with to rush in and grab the ashes while the rest did a suicide run against the Charr atop the platform. That works. ;)

Althea's Ashes was a toughie, but rather complete it than buy the ashes off the market. What's your in game nick? I actually want to go north of Althea's Ashes so i dont mind helping you out, will only be online @ about 2300pm tho.

Energy is always a problem for any caster. A necro has some skills to gain energy. The best one is probably to put some points into the Soul Reaping attribute.

On the topic of energy and what I mentioned last week about people abusing you when playing a monk, see this comic:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/images/twinkiecomic3.jpg

But the benefit of having a good monk is still that one can see any place in the game, because there are always groups that will take you along.

my mesmer got to Pike town and will do that same quest too... have to complete the Ruins of Surmia first though...

@Vercogen - whats your online nick so we can be on the look out for you?

Ok, mine is Lord McCrack, so when you're online drop me a msg.
you dont have too fire up both channels, i only fire up 1 64K channel and the game runs fine.

@Vercogen - i will check whats in my storage and keep any further purple drops i get. Whats your current staff so i know whats better to look out for?

@gkm - thanks, i intend in getting to Lions Arch before the weekend so i can join up with the 2k and 4k quests which our party failed over the weekend.

EDIT : yip, on weekdays i only play on one 64k line too. :p

Althea's ashes was a bit of a bugger to do. I completed it with henchmen only

The good thing about it is that there is a respawn point right near your goal. I don't know how many times I died doing that mission, but it was probably more than 10, much more than 10. :p

Trying to get through it was nasty, especially with a -60% death penalty - which meant I did not have enough energy to cast anything (Wa/El), and brute force didn't work too well.

The trick was to dodge around any Charr hanging around the goal, and pick up the ashes just before you die.

Then you respawn, and can map travel back to Piken square.

It was VERY frustrating to get through, I was almost at the point of giving up, but I had spent so much time and effort getting there, I didn't want to waste that. :p
