H10 or H50 for "Mom" Use?

I have been looking at the Sony H10 and H50 to purchase. I like to take "artistic" shots and have even won a few amateur photography contests. However, I find I mostly end up using the auto function. The PRIMARY use for my new camera will be "mom" shots. You know the indoor snapshots for the scrapbook, soccer and basketball shots, etc. I do crop most of my pictures.

I realize the 15X zoom is a big difference but it would ony be worth it if the picture quality is as good as that of the 10X model for the majority of the shots I take.

Is the H50 worth the additional money for this type of use? Also are there any potential problems with either model for these uses?

If you can afford it go for the H50 ... the tilt screen is good.

I would say the H10 would suit you fine ... smaller and easier to handle.

The flash on these camera's are a gem .... you can shoot about 5m away and get good shots. Love the screen 3" high res.

As I said if money is not an issue - I would get the H50. The H10 however is the best bang for your buck between the two.

Thanks for the welcome and quick tip. With the economy being as it is, we decided to go with the H10 and save a little money. I took several pictures tonight to test it and got very mixed results using the auto setting. Some pictures are awesome with crisp details. Other are quite blurry. There is no pattern (indoor, outdoor, etc.). The "posed" pictures are all clear so I am wondering if it is a problem with the image stabilzation, face recognition, etc. The blurry pictures did not have any excessive movement that I can identify.

Any ideas? I read somewhere that the face recognition could be an issue so I may try turning it off to see if I get similar results.
 
Best to mount on tripod or stable surface and fire some self timer shots ... if you still get blurry pics - go swop it out as there might be a problem with the camera.
 
The face recognition was already off so that turned out not to be the problem. I took more test shots in different settings and it appears that the "prefocus" is very important with this camera (pressing the shutter button half way before taking the picture). This will slow me down a bit but the pictures that were taken with prefocus were much better. I also read in another forum that the 9 point focus/balance might be something to play with so I may try the center-weight balance next.

Congrats on your purchase ... capture tons of memories.

Dont forget to buy stacks of memory cards ... I used to record video with it outdoors and it was fantastic.

I had an issue like that with my canons - switching to centre point focusing solved it.

DSLR. Unless you tell it what you want it focusing on (by selecting one of the focusing points) it's just guessing anyway . . unless you're in A-Dep.

I know - but I made an exception because it began a sentence. :)

As far as I'm concerned use whichever one floats your boat . . . but dSLR looks better. :D
 
I am posting an update in case someone finds this through a search.

After playing with the H10, I have learned to decrease the EV value when taking indoor shots with a flash. Otherwise, the auto settings work fine and my pictures have been very good. Outdoor photos are excellent with this camera.
