Hacked then Banned

Incidentally, just to correct an earlier post, every since BC the GM restorations have been able to restore items with enchants intact.

Sorry to hear thiartc. Unfortunately, Blizz does not restore any gold, enchants or gems so be prepared for that loss :(

Friends account was re-instated after 1 week of waiting... Got all 4k of his gold back, as well as everything single item that was sold from his account.
Was a pretty prompt response and resolution.

Glad you got sorted but it seems this hacking is all over the place.

We had a guild member hacked about 4 weeks ago, finally got his account back a few days ago. Dont know what he lost, but when his account was hacked it was about 3am in the morning server time, they raided our guild bank as well.

Fortuantly there is limited access so we weren't wiped out totally. Also there happened to be an officer on-line at the time and shut it down when he asked the guild member if he had lost his mind! and the account was promptly transfered to another realm.

Another game friend not a guild member, but we play together quite often got hacked late last year, he never got his account back. His command of English is very poor and even when we eventualy helped him write to Blizz they never agreed to return the account. So he had to start again from scratch, when ppl heard about it, it was one of the fastest boosts I have ever seen.

Think it might be the day I quit if I get hacked.

How many of you use the feature that says "Remember Username" ?

Even if you have a keylogger, they can't get in as you never typed ur Username ;)

Small things people, small things :D

Hmmm, yeah this is true :D I use this...and I have some hectic security software on my PC :o

i got hacked awhile ago but i was lucky enough to be logged on while it was takin place.. i kept on getting disconnected and everytime i tried to log in my password didt work so i kept on changing it so i could log on .. i changed my password 5 times but unfortunatly the hacker had enough time to sell all my stuff on my main char. i was lucky that he didnt clear out all my char otherwise i would have quit. It took the gms about 3 weeks to get all my stuff back. I was lucky enough to not get banned so while i was waiting for the gms to get back to me i lvled and alt. IT was my stupidity that got me hacked as i loaded a mod and it wasnt working then clicked on the .exe file and installed a keylogger. THis hacker was damn quick tho.. he knew exactly what he wanted to do and did it.

That's some scary stuff ... interesting to read up on it though. I've only been playing for 2 weeks, so I'm pretty fresh at all of this.

On the AddOn remark: How do you know which AddOns to trust? I use WoWMatrix to pull all my addons but i'm sure not all of them are safe. Any way to make sure ?

well most sites now have their own scanning functions and say that all their content are safe so if u download from those places then i dnt think there will be anything to worry about. Just if u get a mod and it doesnt work .. check the folder and if u see any executable files .exe.com.bat Don't open them :P

wow.curse.com, wowui.worldofwar.net are the 2 sites i use for mods

Ive found WowAceUpdater to be brilliant, it scans your interface directory, finds what mods you have, and allows you update any/all at once.

I use http://files.wowace.com/ - get their installer, it checks your addon folder and updates any out of date mods (only the WoWace ones ofc. but most of my mods are from there anyway)

The problem is that the program is not being developed or supported anymore.

I've switched to WowMatrix.

Orly? I'm still able to get updates for my WAUpdater, and am using it every night

See: http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=8299.360

Note: As of 11/07 WAU is no longer in active development.

A compiled version of the last/final build is available here: http://www.codeplex.com/wau

Supported Versions: There are no supported versions of this application.

Also, WAU was never intended as an update manager. It was intended for addon developers to grab the latest beta versions of addons out of svn. That's why addons frequently break when using WAU. - If you've never had broken addons with WAU, then consider yourself lucky :)

I'm not saying that addons don't break with WowMatrix - they do, but it doesn't seem to be as often :)

Ah ok, seems to be working 100% for me so far (started using it 2months back)

I use Wowmatrix its awesome :)

Buddies account got hacked some months back. Took about a week and a bit to get it restored. His account also got banned for a couple of days, it nothing to worry about, just blizz making sure the bliksem doesnt retry using you account.

The noob had all his details, even email login and passwords. He changed the password on wow and then kept on changing it while I was doing the same lol.

It is most problery a keylogger, the best thing i can tell you is to get ZoneAlarm Suite FTW.
The first thing i would do is format pc, install zonealarm, change your email address at Blizz, and the change the password.

I feel it is partly Blizz's fault as we informed them that the account was being hacked. I was talking to the GM while the prick was online with my buddies account. GM did nothing. Iam sure they can detect the IP address if that pc and ban it.

There was a poll on the wow forums last year, every1 with Zone Alarm hadnt gotten hacked in over 2.5 yrs

I agree with barfish. its really worth it
