Hackintosh

I am looking for advice for building a hackingtosh, Whats the best laptop to get to achieve this for under 10k?

Even a desktop will do.

Thanks

Rather get a Windows 10 laptop/desktop. It's the only desktop OS that matters. Why do you need OS X? Safari or Logic pro X?

I would go with a 2012 MBP, should be slightly cheaper with the ability to upgrade RAM and HDD (to SSD/SSHD) unlike the Air. (Air's SSD can be upgraded if one finds the correct proprietary SSD of course, I think Transcend do them locally but $$).

Move along and stop questioning what they want to do or offering incorrect advice.

Strong the irony is..

How so?

Many people think building a Hackintosh is easy 'because they use Windows components'... It's not, especially getting everything working perfectly as it does on a Mac, as mentioned in this thread.

Unless a gaming Mac is needed (higher end graphics cards etc.), those looking for a Hackintosh are much better off using a rMBP, maxed MBP or Mac mini for general use, development, etc.

Let me guess, you know absolutely nothing about OSX and want to learn? Then you are going to have a very hard time and end up telling everyone how **** OSX is because you could never make it work properly.

Spend R4k more and buy the real deal Macbook Pro, or spend R2000 less and get a Mac Mini.

The advice from Suaron is the best advice you will get.

You've never used OSX or Apple products for longer than a few hours have you?

All you know is the default hatred for them. And they call us the sheep...

That's because I have no use for them. At work I use MS Dynamics NAV and O365. At home I want Steam on an OS where it has the most games. Whatever he wants to do on a hackintosh laptop can be done on a much beefier and cheaper Windows 10 one.

You are kidding em right? Gaming on a Mac? Most Trippe A titles are made for Windows only these days. If you want to play the big titles, don't even bother with a Mac. rather spend the same amount of money you would have spent on a "gaming Mac" and get a Gaming laptop. Should be able to get something decent in that price range.

Clearly not a Mac user.

Heard of dual booting?

The fact that I'm not a Mac user has nothing to do with this. Mind sharing the specifications of this gaming Mac's? Also their prices?

Of course it does. Before I owned one I was also ignorant, also despised Mac and OS X. I also laughed when people mentioned gaming.

Sure, you can find info about these gaming Hackintosh/Macs here - http://www.tonymacx86.com/building-customac-buyers-guide-september-2015.html#Graphics_Cards.

According to a quick google search, an iMac capable of playing games will cost R27 000 + (Via iStore). That includes a GTX 755M GPU (Which is aged by now, and won't give you the best performance out there). A MacBook pro with a dedicated GPU will cost round about the same I assume. In this price range you can get a normal Laptop like this one: http://www.takealot.com/asus-g751jl-gaming-notebook/PLID35711163 which will be able to play most games (Triple A titles included). No need for dual booting, and no need to look for tailor made games, that is made to run on OSX. Switching between Operating systems just to play games is a hassle. As a gamer I won't want to switch to Windows to play games.

What are you talking about?

Those are not AAA titles. Out of 10 current titles I played or am still playing only 1 is available on OSX, Tomb Raider.

Dual booting is not nice, been doing it since 2005. These days I just leave the system in windows.

Gaming is not limited to triple As.

You mentioned that one can game on a Mac, a Gaming Mac for that matter. So I got a price on the iStore website of a 27" iMac that is capable of running games at a decent resolution, and decent frame rate.
