Since I was 20 I was going bald. Now I can see only skin from my front to my crown, looking just like the Joshua Doore man.

I have considered going for hair transplant surgery, but that is crazy expensive.

I usually just shave my head, but for three weeks now I've been growing what is left of my hair.

In this time I have noticed something peculiar. The areas where I am "bald" seems to be packed with the thinnest, shortest, clear-looking hair. I have never really noticed this before as the hair is so extremely thin, but the hair is there. The follicles are not dead yet it would seem.

Now I want this thin hair to grow as they should, before they may die for good.

I know that dead follicles can never grow hair again, but my follicles are still holding on for life. I need to know if there are any real working remedies that can fully reactivate these follicles, and make them grow thick and normal once more.

I need advice. Are there any pills? Hormone treatments? Shampoos?

What are your suggestions?

How much is crazy expensive if you don't mind my asking.
Strand by strand transplants start at around R80k for initial treatments.

R30k for the one where they transplant entire patches. This leaves bad scarring so it's never been an option for me.

Bald is in. have a shave, get a tan and hit the gym. May as well embrace it. Bald does look a lot better than the Doore.

I have heard this a million times. I am young, I want to look young whilst I still am. And like I said, I'm not bald, I have hair, and I want them to grow thicker basically.

Vitamin B is good for hair and skin. Must be a good B complex like Solgar.

I have found a thread on MyBB about treating super thin hair with Propecia and Minoxidil. The Internet seems to agree that this is the only working treatment.

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/665403-Propecia-and-Minoxidil-works-for-hair-loss!

Can anyone vouch? What does this cost, either the original or generic versions?

I've been taking finpecia (the Propecia generic) for about 10 years now. Costs around R200-R300 per month.
However, as was pointed out to me on this forum, Propecia does carry some risks, so do your research before taking it. I am lucky in that i have not experienced any side effects at all, ever.

I tried Minoxidil, but it made my scalp itch like crazy so i stopped.

What kind of risk?

Friend of mine is on finpecia as well. Apparently it affects your libido? That's not good :p

Go to a GP or a Dermatologist and get a prescription for Propecia and Minoxidil. Both together will help regrow what you have lost - just FYI it takes about 6 months before you will notice results as hair follicles have a long life cycle. I have used both before without problem.

Beer has a load of B-Vitamins. If this is true, I should be looking like sasquatch by now. My hair is still thinning.....luckily I'm not one to care much about it.......more beer anyone?

Thinning hair is usually due to hormonal imbalances. A GP or dermatologist can help you test for that. It might be valuable to have it checked out in case there might be a bigger problem looming

Chances are that if you're already cueball on top, those treatments are not going to work. The thin translucent hairs on top of your head is pretty standard for bald people. Treatments like Propecia only work to maintain what you already have. Cases where people report regrowth are seldom and usually the regrowth is minimal, so it's not going to take you from bald to David Hasslehoff.

The rule of thumb with finasteride-based medicines is that if you can see scalp it's already too late. Do note that if you have hair transplants you're going to be put on finasteride anyways and you'll be on it for the rest of your life. Also, hair transplants are easily botched and they often look bad and are easily spotted. Ask yourself if you'd rather own the bald look or have people laugh at obvious hair plugs?

Noticing some myself. Evil thing is my day is oooolllddd and he is still has a full head of not grey hair. Starting to think witchcraft cause he isn't the die it / transplant / treat it type.

Not too bothered..ive always been in the shave it camp. Though still trying to work out the when part

GP mentioned the other day that regularly consuming gelatin will help (he was talking about it in a different context)

Apparently, the risks are loss of libido. There are reports of it having long-term effects in this department, but i am not sure what the % of population risk this is. I personally have had no effects. Its been 10 years now and really has slowed the loss of hair dramatically so i am happy with the results.

The most risk free - Minoxidil for the top of your head, Nisim for a receding hairline.

Just make peace with it though. Go with a number 1, and then when it goes completely, clean shave. You'll soon discover that it's way too much effort to do this every day for life...
