Halaal restaurants

Certain Cape Town Fish markets also, i think Sandton definitely, as well as the Eastgate 1.
I believe some halaal friendly. Dont mind seafood but psychologically just too difficult to have meat at a place not strictly halaal. Not judging please just my own preference.

in grant avenue there's a halaal adega express, jimmys killer fish and chips, debonairs, mochachos, nandos, mivami and Senhor Calistos
Sounds like Rosebank :-) Norwood a bit far but useful to know.

Like phiber said Grant avenue becoming the new Mint road :)

Another up and coming future mint road is greenhill road (border emmarentia and Greenside) theres a Halaal wimpy, Mochachos, Adega Express and La Padrino - I have only been to the Wimpy and its way better then the Lenz and fordsburg one.

Rosbank the Spur is very good (IMO) I haven't tried the mikes kitchen I haven't heard good things but will try for myself.
One thing though for fast food that burger king in Rosebank is excellent - no matter where we eating or going if we at the zone we will always get a take away from there.

assuming you mean fine dining restaurants... sadly there are none. ZA halal market is too cost conscious to support such establishments. At best you might find a few non-halal certified restaurants who are halal friendly and stock Karan beef (which is halal) Wombles comes to mind. Though i'v not eaten there.

I find this hard to believe.

Spur, Jimmys, Adega and even Europa are all quite expensive.

A decent steak at Spur with a portion chips will set you back around 90 rands.

The problem is not price, cause most of the folks in north JHB can afford R140 per plate.

There is just no interest in fine-dining (although some Muslims do chow at haraam fine-dining outlets) OR there is too much support for franchises.

Perhaps that oke Ozzie from Master Chef can open one restaurant up. I'd pay to taste some gourmet food he prepares. Based on price, it would probably be around the cost of Spur/Jimmys/Adega, but taste much nicer.

@OP:

There isn't much in PTA East. There's a few halaal places in Hatfield, nothing in Brooklyn and I think the Chicken Licken in Menlyn is halaal.

But (as I mentioned above), there is mostly halaal franchises and Pakistani "fine-dining" (which is a bit ironic, especially if you spot the cockroaches in their kitchens )

Wimpy in laudium was also excellent. Think they now in Eldoraigne.
Spur Risebank better than Mikes Kitchen. Food was more expensive and not as good.

I know about pakistani thats why a bit reluctant to support them. Also somehow not a fan of the taste. Mind you I havent tried the steak sizzlers yet.

Btw Oriental Palace excellent but talking about 4-5 years back. Kids bigger now so my wife and I can check out places.

Rosebank's Mike's kitchen is where I had the most bland, raw steak of my life. I suppose I would have been better off biting a live cow somewhere. :p

The Fish and Chip halaal opened in brooklyn and Jimmys killer fish and chips halaal in moreleta park. Pretoria old east with Jamaah Khana and getting halaal places becoming a place for muslims to settle.

Parkview Europa is halaal (not far from Zoo lake). They are currently doing an iftar thing with 10% off

Had a bad experience there. Know the owners so I had to keep my mouth shut!

If service / food is bad i let them know, If i know the owners i let them know especially since i know them personally and I tell them i dont expect anything i just think they should know what happens since stuff like this can cause business to drop.
From their perspective its better to know for every customer that complained about something there are 10 that don't, the one that complained will at least help them fix the problem and come back, while the other 10 will just tell other people and not resolve the issue.
