Basically I bought the Half life 2 Collectors Edition DVD when it came out and sort of played it, but never finished it. Years later, i get this urge to go back and try finish it but alas, Steam wants my original account details I supplied. I cant remember these details, and I dont have the same email address anymore so I cant retrieve any account info through the forgot pasword system.

It wont let me create a new account with that same cd key either. How teh hell do I get to play a game I bought?

Does anyone know a workaround or a solution to help out, coz this is freakin frustrating

Thanks in advance

A patch a day, keeps the "steams" away!

Truth is I lost my details as well and have the Collectors Box sitting idle, but it's better with my Orange Box on XBOX anyway :)

You can't :( sorry

Well, its worth a shot to email Valve and ask them to which email address that cdkey is associated with. Maybe they can then supply you with the details, if you can somehow prove to them that you purchased it and have the original (which you obviously have ;) )
Worth a try.. :)

I had the same problem boet!
I did the following:

I e-mailed them via the support part of the site and said:

I've bought half-life 2 collectors edition from a friend today.
i can't play it / activate the game because it says it has been already.
please can you fix this for me so i can play the game.
i've attached a digital photograph of my package.

They replied a day later with

Hello,

Please reply with a digital photo or scan of the CD Key in which the CD Key may be clearly read (I am sorry, I was unable to distinguish the CD Key in the image which was sent).

Then I sent another picture and got this reply

Hello,

I have released the CD Key from the Steam Account it was registered to. You are now free to register said CD Key with the Steam Account of your choice.

Please follow these instructions to add a retail game subscription to your account:

1) Load the Steam application and go to the main Steam window (the first window which opens after you log in)

2) On the Store tab at the bottom of the window (just above the News, Friends, Servers, Settings, and Support icons) you should see a link labeled "Activate a product on Steam..." - please click this link and enter your CD Key code

Please follow the link(s) below for more information:

Title: Steam Account Use
URL: http://support.steampowered.com/cgi...r/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10&p_created=1092152126

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Hope this helps you... you know, realise what you have to do etc.

PS: this is a old e-mail, so don't be suprised if the above URL is MIA :)

yeah, i agree with gdiza.. :)

Had a similar situation before, just e-mail valve, tell them about the situation, and attach a digital photo graph or a scan of your CD-key with the email.

Give valve time to reply and they should sort out all your problems (sometimes can take a day or 2 for them to reply) ;)
