Halo

On its 3d printed plastic throne? Idk the metals just doesn't look metallic at all. Look at master chief and his plastic suit? O well, at least good for someone else. lol.
I'm in the mood for something light & fun so I've turned off being critical about too much. I also like that the characters have some motivation that makes sense. It might be a bit 2-dimensional at times, but we all know who's on what mission and what they're trying to achieve and Cortana added a nice layer to the story. Enjoying this far more than Boba Fett.

I agree, but I can't help but seeing that when I look at the throne/spartans. In any case I did enjoy The Ice Pirates movie and was total bollocks in space.

Looking for something to watch tonight. Think I’ll give this a go

The show screws up master chief's character too much. Not just him revealing his face to Kwan, heck he even participates in battle without his helmet on  ,but by how quickly they focus on his humanity. This was built up over the course of multiple games and one could say mostly due to the change of developers. But in this show it's rushed and feels fake. This should rather have been done more towards the end of the season.

Would improve the show if they have Kwan die off in the next episode or two, although I have a suspicion that she still has to play a very important role

The human among the covenant is just plain retarded no matter how you justify it. This is a much bigger issue than the helmet or MC's rushed humanity IMO.

At the moment the stakes in the show doesn't feel very pressing. It would be useful if they show the extent of the war with the Covenant and not just focus on this little sector of space.

As for what some have mentioned with the FTL on small ships. No that is not in any of the books. They just want to follow a more Star Wars approach like the Mandalorian. Possibly using this mechanic with MC in future episodes.

In a sense this is what this show is, Star Wars in Halo garb.
Speaking of Star Wars, at least we get to see finger swords and worms...

The references to actual Halo lore is very superficial. The nitpicking can go on for ages, but the creators did say this will not follow the books/games. That said overall they did make it look good, baring a few scenes that look bad etc.

Most Halo fans that end up enjoying this, do so by knowingly viewing this as non Halo.
The question is, if you from the start plan not to adhere to the lore, except in the superficial sense, then why make the show in the first place? The obvious answer is name recognition, but that's a very shallow reason.

All in all even if you strip away the Halo veneer it's still a meh show, marginally better than Boba Fett.

I like the way these look on screen...
The design / animation of them is cool.

Is that Regret, Mercy or Truth?

One thing people need to remember that Master Chief is a empty vessel for the player to occupy in the games. It kinda does not work in a TV series.

That's exactly what I was saying it's risky giving a character gamers enjoy and made their own a personality.

The reveal makes perfect sense to me because the voice is already gone so there is a disconnect.

Revealing the face kind of “resets” Master Chief to the viewer to realise this is a different Master Chief in a different medium.

TV being TV it would have been far more disconnected if they just kept him in the suit.

I was initially taken aback as well, but it makes sense. Especially to do it right in the first episode, helps you to attach to the character.

All of that can similarly be said of the Mandalorian, yet people still loved that show. I believe there are more Halo master chief fans than there were of the Mandalorian, prior to the show.

Assonating with a character boils down more to the writing and acting skills. They used the same excuse, among others, for the unveiling of the Aiel in WoT.
Viewers, in this case more specifically HALO fans, don't need this to realise it's a different MC in a different "reality". Just watching the first, and every subsequent, episode makes that clear.

And all the non halo fan critics? The show is poor/blant and if you switch off/zombie (brain dead) mode it becomes better. That is the reality.

It can’t be said of the Mandalorian because it was a brand new character without a pre-existing voice and legacy.

Also, they did reveal the Mandalorian too.

The entire subtext of this series is humanising Master Chief, which you can’t really do without making him human.

Another kettle of fish.
Just meant that the helmet is only relevant to those that know about it thus generally excluding most non fandom watchers.

They are the same in that they had established lore, with Halo having much more.
Yet they only did the reveal towards the end of the first season, mostly due to Pascal wanting his moment in the sun.
Having a different voice is not that big of a deal as no one expected them to cast the VA from the games.

You can have the over arching subtext be the humanising of him without starting with it from the get go. In this case Kwan is sorta like a McGuffin.
From what I recall they already had two seasons to play with. Likely not more than this given how the show is received and the cost per episode.
I'm pretty sure if they focused more on the action/war, which would ironically have been easier to do, and less on humanising him the show would have had more success.

Cortana liked that.
Never played games or anything but watching the series. Now here's something I don't get. Since the creator of cortana is a woman , why the F would she design the avatar to be dressed like what's shown in the pic (which is from the game). That's a male fantasy unless that Dr is a big lesbo.

The one in the TV series makes more sense

Well for one women can enjoy shapely women without being lesbian just as men can appreciate a well muscled man without being gay.

Secondly how does it make more sense? It's an AI and can represent itself in whichever form it chooses.
There is one AI called Araqiel whos avatar was an elongated skull with long, demon-like horns, fire-filled eyes and jagged teeth.
Then there was the more human, but still unrealistic agricultural AI called Mack who chose the form of a cowboy while flirting with his counterpart AI Sif. She had an ankle-length sleeveless gown, long golden hair, a red poncho and spoke with the accent of Nordic royalty.

Cortana underwent some changes through the games and books, but I can't recall if her decision for her appearance was addressed. That look was from Halo 4 10 years ago. At the end of the day the majority of the players/fans were male so it's probably just simply eye candy.

It unsurprising that series these days would not portray her like that. Having to self censure like that over something trivial is a bit disappointing though.

That's the most recent look and I remember people commenting on that at the time Halo 4 came out...

I guess the Halo 4 designers where tryi g to appeal to their main demographic.

But yeah, agree, the Cortana design in the show is a lot better.

Another idea is that, as an AI, Cortana might choose a form that is most appealing to the subject she is working with...

How do they go from the clone with all the memories and feelings etc. to Cortana who seems to lack anything even remotely resembling the consciousness and personality we just saw in the clone (who had all the memories of the scientist, was exhibiting some resentment etc.)?

They make it seems like it's a consciousness extraction but what ends up in Cortana is completely different. Can't quite figure what the point of the clone was unless that personality is going to start coming thru in Cortana at some point.
