Hands-on with Altech's Node

Here are some photos of the update and registration screens I wasn't comfortable with using in the article (they came out a bit grainy):

Do they have a website yet, with the list of whats available?

Not yet. I think it's meant to be at node.co.za. I'll check the promo video thing on my Node later tonight to double-check.

Thats actually sounding pretty solid. I rate if they don't try to screw over the customers that might actually fly.

What content is there for a start and is the Monthly free for everything or do u have to pay for VOD movies and episodes that are the latest etc...

I like what I see but the start up cost is heavy. It will be a great compared to DSTV for series and movies but they seriously need to bring down the cost of the setup fee. to atleast R1500

Surely the cost of the decoder can't be R3500. It probably cost less than half of that.

Early adopter price?

It is a bit on the heavy side but considering what you'd be paying for DSTv or internet on a monthly basis this isn't that bad.

What did the HD PVR go for when it first launched? R3k, R4k? The price goes down the longer it is in the market. In a few months you will probably get this decoder for below R3k and then later below R2k. This also has a 3 TB drive in, so that is also a large part of the cost.

ffs content list , please, I dont mind local content as well... node looks good this far

This idea looks very inviting. You don't even need a credit card.

3TB HDD I would assume is a large part of the cost associated with the decoder which is understandable.

I'm not to sure about the 3TB HDD since everywhere else but here it says it has a 1TB HDD.

As I stay on a farm and have limited internet access (MTN data only and 2 bars 3G max) this Node is very appealing. Some things I dont understand: If I get it in say 6 months or a year will the content be different to that pushed to someone who gets it at launch? I dont understand the concept of pushing until the hard drive is full and then starting to replace content.

I suppose this will require its own dish?
