Hard drive checking tool

I'm looking for a tool that is 'somewhat' like the old 98 scandisk.

Easy to use, doesn't kill your PC to use it (so when you running it, your PC still functions) works with Windows 7, basically scans a hard drive, does all the necessary checks, graphically works (showing data errors) etc.

If it's freeware, it's a bonus.

Any good programs out there?

Not really looking for a tool that defrags the drive, more looking for a tool that does a full scandisk, can tell me about data errors and such.

Your best bet is to download the diagnostic software from your manufacturers website and run that. The old scandisk type app is redundant with SMART and other internal disk mechanisms.

Yeap, I know that, but I have Seagate HDD's in my PC as well as Samsung HDD's.

Seagate Seatools is really a CRUD program (or at least, the Windows version is)

So I'm looking for a universal tool that I can set to run 'full' scans on my HDD's when I'm not at home then review the results when I get home from work.

HDDScan, found it, going to give it a test.

I'm a growing fan of "freeware" tools these days, I'm actually trying to move away from the 'common' programs and give freeware apps a shot.
