Hard to drive...

Under 2K/XP, you can only create a maximum of a 32gig FAT32 partition. However, 2K/XP will recognize any size FAT32 partition, it just won't create it.

If I want a larger FAT32 partition, I used Partition Magic to create it, but there is a small command line tool that does it... can't remember the name right know... but Fat32 is a nessacary evil if you want to connect the device(external HDD) to your Macbook, linux box or xbox360

"While the FAT32 file system can support drives up to a standard theoretical size of 2 terabytes"

lemme think now...
yes, that is exactly what i said
yes, 100% in fact.

and you admit you used partition magic, so your argument that your 200gb fat32 drive says otherwise is actually backing up my argument.

and i even linked to the utility, proving that you are incapable of reading

bwana, not sure where you get your info from, but i will give you a bit more time that koneigregg, you either havent tried the command line and hope it works, or you have and magically it did work. I have tried command line format program and it didnt work, had to use utility linked above.

so, bwana, did you manage it with special windows xp version only exists in africa, or are you guessing/hoping? because it doesnt work.period.

That would be wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Allocation_Table#FAT32) and as for giving me more time . . that's not necessary - I have as much interest in this subject as I would in any Windows matter - iow practically nil. If I find a drive lying around and feel so inclined I'll kick the tyres. :)

your boot section cant be large than 30gig it seems on fat32, my playtime box doesn't care it takes whatever you shove in there.

You can cheat partitions but when things go wrong they will go wrong big time

hehe, i'm happy now.
the human encyclopaedia has an error, which i will promptly go correct, as the commandline format does not work either for creating larger fat32 partitions.

and neither does it work in vista

or in winpe2.0

off to do some editing..

There are better mdeia units available which allow multiple output
i.e you can plug in a crt or DV monitor.
Not sure if available in SA yet

I've been through a number of media players and have finally settled on the Netgear EVA8000. Have a few of them pulling content of a NAS.

Not only does it support a huge number of codecs (including hidef ones) but I can control it via TCP. You can actually do more via TCP than the GUI allows.

Also have a Vista MCE / Xbox-as-Extender setup.

Still trying to figure out which is best. Suspect horses for courses.

erm format doesn't create partitions fdisk does

here we go again

...

do me a favour
go start/run/cmd
type in fdisk
tell me what is says

so, what now? oh wait, fdisk doesnt lay out the partitions anymore does it...no, it is diskpart that does it. if you want to argue semantics, please get it right or shhhhhh
as this topic is about creating fat32 partitions on windows xp there is no fdisk involved.
