Hi,

I've got 3x PC's on my lil home LAN with each connected to each other and the root HDD of each shared. I can in fact access each ones HDD from the other - except 'Windows', 'Program Files' and 'pcname Documents'.

The thing is I really need to access the 'pcname Documents' in order to copy music from one to the other in My Music. How do I get FULL ACCESS to each HDD? :/

Assuming XP:
Explorer==>Tools==>Folder Options==>View==>Use simple file sharing==>Off

Go to folder==>properties==security==>Add Administrators with full permission.

Set Simple file sharing back on again. You can also give permission to "everyone" if security is not a problem. There's also an option for it to apply to sub dirs/inherited permissions there.

Gota bounce

Does windows allow a person to share a while folder hierarchy and denying access to some of the subfolders?

Hi,

Sorry - I'm relativly new.

Regarding the 2nd part, when I go to 'security' of folder I see ...

Group or user names

administrators ('pcname'/administrator)
'pcname' ('pcname'/'pcname')
SYSTEM

Do I need to ADD another? If so, what are objects and the rest? :/

Thanks!

as mentioned above, for basic home networks:

1. keep simple sharing off
2. Add 'Everyone' to Permissions, check full Control.
3. Add 'Everyone' to Security, check full control.

I thought about it some more. ghalied's suggestion is best. Make sure the administrator account has a password on it. Then switch off simple file sharing. Then type in the stuff ghalied said, with either C$ D$ etc depending on the drive you want to access. Use the administrator and the admin password to log on.
