Harddrive working, but no files

Hi my harddrive is working fine, I start up and everything, but my partition (250gigs) shows it is full but there is no files showing.

I am using SP2 on XP Pro.

Please help. (i think a recovery programme would be a bit extreme)

By the sounds of it, the MFT got a bit screwed up, so all your data may be there, but it has no clue what's what.
 
It's long shot but try using ms-prompt or something to view the files, maybe it's windows explorer

Bwana, yes I said data recovery is a bit extreme. But I really need that files, would data recovery be the best, no other way?? :( (then I need another 300 gig to recover it on)

I can see the files , but they are split into thousands of weird folders.
 
kiepie, i had the same problem a while ago, tried everything but nothing worked, until I tried a program called Partition Table Doctor. It sorted the problem out completely....I still have it if you cant find it on the web ;)

Well I unticked my "hidden files" option, and saw all the files in the millions of folders, so I needed to copy and paste each file in that folder. Thats for the program, will keep it close if I need it in the future. :rolleyes:

Still wonder what caused all this? (i just restarted my pc) :confused:
