Hardware Bargains 2 - Electric Boogaloo

Check this out on takealot: PowerUp 300W 296Wh Lithium-Ion Portable Power Station 1 x 3 Prong SA Plug Point

A good price again
The 150w is also cheap again @ R600. Not quite the R280 that we got it for but still... Its basically the price of a charger.

It is indeed, really scored, paid the price the 300w is now for both :-), have used the 300w to power the ROG ally when out and about. Worked out cheaper than a 20000mah 100w power bank

So Lightning hit a few things in the house. Insurance came to take them, so still don't know if they can fix or we have to buy new. But son's pc was one of the things, so starting to look for new parts just in case, Is this a good deal? He just had a cheap motherboard, think A320m and a Ryzen 5 3600.

Well they have a router on special too and Openserve just came to fix my line and replaced ONT, so I phoned my local store and they said they have stock. So hopefully they still have later this afternoon when I go there.

Are you comfortable with no aftersale service?
Well I have bought a few things from them before and never had a problem. Once even had to return something after a few months and got replacement. I do live close and do not ship from them, I pick up and buy directly.
Maybe I look a bit intimidating and they don't try tricks with me. Never had any problems returning and getting replacements at other shops too.

SO if that other deal is gone is this one ok? Boy had a 3600, so this should probably give more or less same performance?

Well if you 100% don't plan on dropping a 5700x3d in there sometime in the future.. / insist on evetech
You could try another dead socket. i5 12th gen combo's are usually not so expensive and perform better than the 3600 he had

Better than paying more for a 3600/5500 that wont perform as good.. but again, only if you have no intentions of snagging a 5700x3d

Have a read here:

On the evetech thing. Bought an upgrade kit for my nephew, ended up returning it 5 times before they sent the correct stuff. I would rather eat glass and listen to Kurt Darren than buy from them ever again. This is obviously anecdotal, but there are thousands of us, if not dozens, with the same experiences.
Thanks. Firstly I am just checking first. Insurance took pc and we will know tomorrow if they can fix it or they will pay out. Then we will se how much money he gets for the pc.
Secondly he is not planning to spend too much and get fancy MB that can do Pcie 4. His next upgrade will be to AM5. So max he will do now is maybe a 5600x. But he does not care, you can't really get 3600 new and secondhand they go for around R1200. He would prefer that, but they are a bit scares 2nd hand if you in a hurry. He would rather spend as little as possible on cpu mobo and ram to get what he had and rather get a better GPU than he had. Only had a RX 480 4gb.

And his main games he plays is F1, Fortnite and Rocket league. And from YouTube videos it seems the actually run better on the 5500 than the 3600

Then lastly Evetech. Yes I know they not ideal. But if he needs to buy new pc, it is preferred as soon as possible. Writing his last exam tomorrow so on holiday then and he does not watch tv really. So shipping from Wootware or wherever is not really ideal. Evetech I walk in, its less than 15min drive from me. I check that I get what I pay for and all is sealed. Same as if there is a problem. They cannot BS me over the phone or email. I walk in there and sort it out. I will take the chance rather than paying 30% more at some local pc shop.
But again this is all ifs. Will see what insurance say tomorrow. Another option is also just getting a MB new from somewhere and buying secondhand 5600x and ram from carb for around R3k
