Hardware Bargains 2 - Electric Boogaloo

Both Acer and Lenovo are 1x 16GB.

Acer with the more efficient and superior for gaming Ryzen 5 with 6P cores, and Lenovo with the power hungry i5 with 4P + 4E cores, 165Hz 300nits more accurate LCD, and seemingly superior build quality.

So I’m thinking of opening the Lenovo first and if I’m happy, return the Acer.
Wife has a LOQ with that cpu, but with a 4060, the screen isn't bad on it. Speakers aren't great though.

Correct, if it’s the more accurate 300nits one. Importantly, better than the Acer’s.

The normal price is R250 so they are probably not great.

5070 is good in a laptop as that probably maxes out the thermals and the current draw and 5080 offers little advantage. But for desktop 5080 would work better, wouldn't it?

For desktop it depends on your budget of course. RTX 5070 Ti is better value for money over the 5080.

Isn't the 80 the sweet spot though for desktop though? For laptops the 70 is the sweet spot isn't it? Because of the thermals.

Most people given the same budget would probably go for the 4080 or 5080 and save on other components, avoid the 70 and 90.

We're getting offtopic here in terms of the thread but it depends on your definition of sweet spot and also what the rest of your system entails. If looking at higher end Nvidia cards, the 5080 offers 15% better performance* than the 5070 Ti but the 5080 is almost 50% more in cost (based on Wootware pricing).

nope generally it's the 70 series, that's why it's mid-range, while the 80 and 90 series are the high-end. It's also why generally the 60 series are the most sold as they're normally the best bang for buck.
