I believe the Mi Box S is quite well revered on here - but for some reason most review sites rate it very poorly.
Does anybody know if it has an optical out? I'm not finding any solid info on the sites I've trawled

I was also considering buying it because a lot of people here seem to really like it but reviews say it is sluggish at 4K. Seeing as the reason I want to buy it is to replace the TV's sluggish 4K interface, seems pointless...

The 3.5mm jack is a dual port, headphone and optical.
Have you tried looking at the Ematic? It has SP Dif, ether net and two USB ports. Only slightly more expensive...

I would assume this means that you need an adapter to make it work? I have a soundbar that only has Bluetooth and SPDIF.

I ended up ordering the Ematic as posted by @holler - I did some reading on it and it seems like it would be the best for my needs. This means I can finally retire the NUC and move it back to my study

I would've done the same thing, yes the Mi Box is getting Android 9 but the Ematic already has it and I like Ethernet.
