I has a chance to use the Onyx while I was developing an Android app. I found the Onyx to be buggy and the button layout opposite to what one is used to on the iPad/Samsung/Asus etc. The battery life wasn't very good either.

For the same price the Dell S2340L would be the better monitor (having an IPS panel) if you don't mind the glossy coating.
The P2312H has a TN panel (worse colors and viewing angles).

Before this post, I ordered the recommended Dell U2312HM Ultra Sharp 23" Full HD LED IPS Monitor from Wootware. But I got this email offering 3 alternatives:

Thank you for ordering with Wootware. Currently the monitor on your order is not available with our suppliers and there is no ETA for the new shipment as of yet. I would however like to suggest three alternatives that may interested you:

Dell Ultra Sharp Series U2412M 24 WUXGA LED IPS Monitor - R 3,859.00 incl.VAT
- Special price with Wootware: R3,499.00

Dell S2440L 24 Full HD 1920x1080 LED Monitor - R 2,699.00 incl.VAT
- Special price with Wootware: R2,549.00

Dell S2340L 23 Full HD 1920x1080p LED IPS Monitor - R 2,420.00 incl.VAT
- Special price with Wootware: R2,199.00

Advice please, guys. I'm out of my shallow depth here.

sergie: I see the S2340L you recommend is one of the 3. Would you still recommend it over the others here?

From what I've read, the 2340 isn't a good buy. Maybe do some googling before you decide on that one first.
Might I suggest the LG 23EA53V 23" @ http://www.pricecheck.co.za/offers/49301550/LG+23ea53v+23+IPS+LED+Monitor/

and homepage: http://www.lg.com/ae/monitors/lg-23EA53V

LG 23EA53V 23" R2842 at Wootware

Higher price here. Worth it?

Problem with trying to decide is that the specs presented are not consistent. And you need the knowledge to understand the specs, aside from the very basic resolution, screen size, etc.

From what I have gathered a IPS screen is a good choice but that is about as far as my knowledge goes.

Lowest price is R2,282.00 .
I dont have any experience with the LG, i was just giving you some more options.
It looks fairly descent, though.

Maybe someone with with one of those can give us some feedback ?

The LG and the Dell are lower end IPS screens that use similar AH-IPS panels, both manufactured by LG if I'm not mistaken.
Their main differences would be:
- LG matte coating (slightly more grainy but zero reflections)
- Dell glossy coating (slightly more vibrant colors but annoying reflections if used in a brightly lit room)
- LG has an extra DVI connection.
- Dell screens are usually calibrated quite nicely by default.

Each screen might also have other smaller "issues" (i.e there are lines showing up in the blue colors of the Dell).
Do some reading around forums and see which pros of each monitor do you care more about, and which cons you can live with.
Normally I'd recommend the dell 2412m, but besides the large price difference, some people seem to be having problems with backlight flickering : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru474L8N15w
Bottomline, don't listen to me, you'll never get a monitor :p

I bought the Dell S2440L 24 Full HD 1920x1080 LED Monitor yesterday. Will see what it's like when it arrives.

Please keep us up to date, and post pics if you can (perhaps in a separate thread). I've been eyeing that one out myself...

For anyone that ever thinks about buying an Onyx tablet - stay away. The quality of the Onyx Athena is extremely poor and has cost me a return fee. Apologies to the people around here that have already advised against it :o

Does anyone know any other 10" tablets that go for around R1700?

Have found the Proline AK888-28 and Mecer S101.
