Correct, members can still open their own accounts, no one is questioning that. ;)

Really...? Im starting to think that it's a myth. They don't respond to emails at all when trying to open an account. I have sent Esquire a PM and he just ignores it. They must be trying really hard to help us MyBB members.....

I would rather recommend an internal drive and external enclosure. Quite a few reasons, most important being that you can open/close it when ever you want (data recovery, perhaps). With factory-assembled external hard drives, opening them voids the warranty.

Seagate/WD 5400RPM/5900RPM/Green and a Vantec Nexstar CX works well.

And there's this drive that's the same price but seems to have a much higher rpm and higher cache - isn't that better?

Cache might help (negligibly/I'm doubtful), but you certainly won't benefit from the higher RPM. Basically, USB is already much slower than the amount of data a "low RPM" drive can send. Therefore 7200RPM makes no difference.

Thanks for the tips... do you have any links? Does buying internal drives and external enclosure work out the same price wise?

About the same. Pre-assembled has become slightly cheaper in the past year or so. But the fact is, buying separate means your data is safer. If something in your pre-assembled HDD breaks (i.e. power supply related), besides the HDD itself, you can't simply open it up to plug the HDD into a PC to get your data off. You will void the warranty. With a separate HDD and enclosure, you can open it up and plug the HDD into a PC, and still return for warranty, etc. You get the point.

I noticed that happening alot aswell :/.

Checkout the updated price, Mitabyte if its not a typo or misprint has the Samsung Ext 2TB for R799.00incl . If in the springfield area, do check it out and update us here.

Unfortunately i work during their business hours and Sat too so have to ask someone to go visit. Do keep us updated you guys, this is the cheapest i have seen anywhere brandnew in S.A at a Retail store & online.

I work in the Retail industry and to see these guys offer such cheap prices, it makes me feel silly at times Oo. We not in direct competition on the North Coast but bloody hell they get good prices hence why i am looking around.

I doubt he has an account for a place like Esquire which requires registration? Hence he linked to retail websites.
Linking supplier prices seems to be a bad habit! :p
That's why I never linked it initially in reply to Yuu... that price he has for the 2Tb in a casing is not a bad price!

I have an account for Esquire... haven't bought anything there yet but good to know I can make use of their good prices when I can afford to...

EDIT:
It's not that hard to register with them...
