Why are so many companies selling such old laptops at such expensive prices?

Some of them are quoting 9k+ for third generation i3 laptops

Is the Rand that weak that we're paying a premium for basic laptops while for the same price, you can import a top-end system from USA/Europe?

Because the majority of people in this country don't understand PC components. So these companies use it to their advantage. i3 will be sold as an i3 no matter if it 3 years old or came into stock last month. It's a shame actually... How people get ripped off...

Africa...always the dumping ground for obsolete tech from US/Europe/Asia.

Food for thought?

What if the next iteration of Powercolour GPU's are as expensive as Sapphire or MSi(or like only R200-300 cheaper)? Suddenly a 280x for R3400 becomes a really good deal, better than it even is now...

Agreed and people are actually buying them.

I feel tempted to buy Dr. DID HEADPHONES but musica also have them on clearance sale.
Don't get the headphones. They previously sold those exact headphones bundled with Office 365 for R800! I bought it (with a voucher nogal) then and sold it again for R1.2k. Besides that, the headphones are actually crap!

Esquire has more n54l's on special - 1 per customer for R1699+vat (4GB RAM / No HDD)

It's a massive price slash, I can't speak for the quality of it though, I don't know anything about the audio industry.

@Wasabee!: If you compare the specs of the DroidTV against those for the Roku 3 or the WD Live I think it's a really good buy. The DroidTV has a faster processor (1.5GHz vs 900MHz, more RAM (1GB vs 256MB), runs XBMC, includes a decent flash enabled web browser, access to the Play Store and various free android movie apps etc. There may be a few things that the Roku 3 or the WD Live can do better, but these players don't have a fraction of the capabilities or the local support that the DroidTV does and they both currently cost substantially more i.e. R995 vs R1500+ vs R1200 etc.

That's a false comparison am afraid. Do not compare specs when the OS varies so much. Compare the features, stability, reliability, expansion, openness, etc without a prob, but memory and processor is just silly

Saying that, if I was buying for my mum or wife I would buy a roku or wdlive.
For me, Droidtv all the way.
