The difference of takealot list price between saffire black and white 32GB LTE Samsung Galaxy S6 is R4700.

Looks decent for the price. Looks like it's the type that need an external USB modem for 3G/LTE so consider that.

My only concern is one ethernet port. No devices you want to connect by cable instead of wireless? Media playes, HTPC, etc?

Thats not an ethernet port but rather the RJ11/telephone port. There are 4 10/100 ethernet ports.

Ja, you're right. They state it on the site and even have a pic of the back of the router. Lord knows where I got the 1 ethernet port from! :D

I have used a similar model Tplink router for years with a 3g modem, they are pretty much flawless, range is not bad either and it should be able to take OPENWRT custom firmwares.

Thoughts on this ADSL router anyone? Not sure I care for the 3g failover, does it tick all the other boxes?

I think that model uses the Broadcom BCM6318 ADSL chipset which is also used in the top of the range Archer D7 and D9 routers. This ADSL chipset performs really well on long (downstream attenuation > 25dB) noisy (low SNR) telephone lines. I am using the same chipset in a Tenda router and currently getting stable 12.5Mbps speeds from my 10Mbps line which has a downstream attenuation of 31dB.

The Tenda D301 which has a very similar design is slightly cheaper (~R315) but doesn't have the additional 3G/LTE functionality although it also has a USB port. The WiFi range on the Tenda is far better (>30m) than on any of my more expensive Billion routers etc.
