Hardware Bargains

Even at that price I wouldn't buy another one. Load of junk, sticks on mine failed after just playing and finishing Horizon zero dawn.
Maybe just a bad batch that you bought from, but those controllers look super sweet.

End November I purchased a 4TB hard drive that was on special from them and they shipped a 1TB drive. They say the description was an error by the supplier - I think they have been incompetent. Screwed my holiday backup plans. They haven't collected as promised and won't honour a replacement 4TB (no stock) although they still advertise stock at regular prices.

They have credited my account. Takealot credit is pointless because of the poor experience I won't be purchasing the [regular priced or moderately discounted] items from them. Now I await EFT refund. The drives I could have instead bought a month back from other suppliers are not available on special anymore.

Over the years I have spent over R30 000 with them at work and this one experience on a personal account leaves a bad taste.

Make VERY sure you keep tabs on the EFT refunds from them. I've had them "forget" twice when refunds were supposed to have happened only a few days later that ended up taking close on a month to process.

TinyDeal seems to have some good discounts today, saw some Xiaomi phones up to 66% off.

Fwiw, I couldn't identify any Xiaomi pricing at Tinydeal that's *actually* a saving over the usual specials from GB/Ali.
Eg. Xiaomi Note 4 should go between 140-150$ on sale, Tinydeal has it for +160.

So don't just buy because it looks good :)

For the 4GB 64GB version?

They make the deals look so enticing by supposed HUGE discounts (same as Gearbest/Ali and the rest though)

The 4/64gb version is MTK, not SD625

As someone who keeps an eye on Xiaomi products on sale in general I've gone through the list and I've seen better from the usual shops.

Haven't been keeping an eye on Tinydeal though, will add them on my To Check list though - thanks :)

When you are browsing around do me a favour and keep your eyes peeled for a 3/32GB Meizu M6 Note on special please :D

Just want to report on the laptop I ordered from Amazon the other day.

This one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K1IO3QW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, got mine for $315 though on Cyber Monday.

The regular price of $350 is still good though and you cannot get a similar spec laptop for this price at local retail outlets. Works out to R6k with regular shipping - that's for a laptop with a 7th gen Core i3, 1080p display and very easy upgradability of memory (2 slots, 1 free) and storage (has a M.2 and sata bay). I upgraded this one with more memory and put a M.2 drive in as the boot drive. It's now insanely fast compared to running it off the shipped 5400rpm hard drive (they should make it illegal to sell computers with these :D).

Hi sorry to bring up the old post I am looking to buy a elcheapo laptop for the wife, and thinking of getting this.

Are you sure that amazon will pay for return shipment or acer sa will honor the warranty?

Is there any other sub R 7K laptops I should be considering?

Thanks

After the Black Friday frenzy the specials have dried up like Cape town's water supply. I'm also looking at Amazon more and more these days.

See if you can find a Dell laptop - their warranty is usually the best in the business.

seems fairly average, am I missing something?

Not bad for the price but sadly it only seems to have VG and DisplayPort inputs

price up to R 1,749

Strange; when I was browsing TAL yesterday two entries showed up in my search - both the same monitor but at different prices, one at R1499 and one at R1749 like you mentioned
