Hardware sellers

This is a great idea. :)

But why not make it a Sub-Forum in the Hardware and Software section instead of a new forum? Maybe only give resellers the "rights" to start new threads in the section. That way we won't have too many threads and forumites can only post replies.
Mods are going to have to be very watchfull though of new members joining up posting links or information to other sellers sites/adverts in threads made by the valid resellers.

Just see that if a "seller" posts up their latest specials. You will have somebody jump in and say "that sucks.. XYZ has it running at this price" Not that, that is always a bad thing, but the "sellers" might get upset if somebody always uses their threads to point to another cheaper option (which there almost always seems to be)

I agree there. The forumites shouldn't be allowed to "argue" prices with the reseller in the open. If they want to in a PM systems then that's fine i think. The reseller will quickly know that the special isn't so special when no one responds.

EDIT: And we can always still "argue" in our hardware bargains thread anyway :D

User driven forums for hardware/software deals and specials are VERY popular and many of the worlds top forums see most forum activity in their buy n' sell sections so yeah, I'm all for this.

There have to be RULES however. For example, one vendor CANNOT post multiple threads for different products, maybe allow them to create one thread a week and post all specials in that thread, really saves us to search through all the clutter. Just make the whole thing organized, set out the rules beforehand and make sure everyone understands it and I'm sure this new section is gonna be a hit. ;)

I think it is better to create multiple threads for different products, because normally the specials are only for a day or 2 in any case, but we just mustn't flood the forums with threads ... if we have 1 giant thread with all our specials when we have them, it won't be as nice, because then people start to reply and stuff, and it will be harder to find the actual special as you might have to click page 6 or something instead of if the thread is for each special, you can just click page 1 to see the special.

Agreed. Have a threads for different products, ie: graphics cards, monitors, pre-builds, laptops etc. Will be more organised and easier to locate specials that way.

This needs to be blogged based or on a section of it's own as rpm highlighted. Sorry to sound like an ass, but I'll leave the forum in a heartbeat if it's overpopulated by overzealous businesses that have a quick advertisement in their posts or common threads. I see it too often these days and it's shameless.

I think it should work in such a manner where all the reseller are in one subforum(under harware and sotfware) and they have their own Thread(one). If they have specials on then they update their 1st post with the specials and the rest of the thread is for discussions and queries.
Makes it easier for the forumites to keep track of the dealers deals.
My 2c.

The problem I see with having companies advertise on the forum itself, why should they invest in advertising with myadsl? That's a loss for the community fund and running costs of this site.

Furthermore, give them the finger and they'll take the whole shoulder as well, I've seen it before. A company rep has a signature in his post to his business site, but as soon as a thread pops up which has something along those lines, they start posting "contact me for more details" with the signature plainly visible, which is bad judgement if you ask me.

Well thats why we have to have a set of rules set aside to prevent such things. The systemshock guys have theirs pretty well set out. Wouldn't hurt to have a lookie there. *hint hint* ;)

Yes tera, but what we could do is not just let any company on, only companies that are actively involved in the forum. For example I am actively involved, and because of that, I often try help out myadsl members, and I know the myadsl rules and how not to tick off the members.

If you look at PCBG or system shock, you will see that the dealer sub forums actually work pretty well. The reason I'm not on system shock is I had a fall out with ace, for a mistake I made and he was far from lenient after I had apologised, so I'm not a fan of his attitude.

There already was a dealer section off the forum, and I don't think it worked out to well ... I think its gone now? Many users don't check out anything else besides the actual forum.

And another question, why is it a loss for the community fund? It will be adding to it?

Do you find my signature in bad taste?

And also, it will be a separate sub-forum, so you don't have to visit the dealer ads if you don't want to :p

It is certainly a good idea and with the proper rules and moderation has the potential to be a great success:).

Im sure it will be. I really don't see how it will not add value to MyBB if it is just well moderated.

Well i haven't even noticed any hardware vendors advertising on MyBB in any case? If they do im am in no way aware of it. I normally visit systemshock and maybe PCBG sometimes for specials. And they will have to pay for advertising privileges in the particular forum in any case. So won't that add money to the comm. fund?
