Has anyone ever solved the incorrect HDD space issue on a Mac?

So my mid 2012 MacBook Pro which has an upgraded 500GB SSD is reporting 20GB free. I deleted about 200GB of iOS backups and still it says there's only 20GB free. I have emptied the trash can, run disk doctor, tried the spotlight indexing fix and nothing is working?

What version of macOS are you on, i have the same model as you with an SSD but ive never seen that kind of bug.

I'm on Catalina, however, I had this bug on Mojave before I replaced the HDD and I managed to fix it but for the life of me I cannot recall how I did it. I do remember though that the spotlight indexing solution also didn't work for me that time.

Try:

finder > <Name>'s Macbook Pro > Macintosh HD > Enable hidden folders with Cmd + Shift + "." > cores. You will see a bunch of files with "Cores <random number>"

Delete all.

What does "df -h" say? (In terminal).

First I've heard of this kind of bug as well.
