Has anything been happening with the Cape Town coverage?

Seriously - the city bowl and the southern suburbs is as dark as when they "launched" a couple of months ago.

Were there any new towers in Cape Town in the last couple of months? According to the "1 tower per week" statement somebody made a little while ago there should have been 10 new towers since launch - I didn't see any....

I am getting frustrated - if Neotel can just give us a roadmap op their planned roll out (it doesn't have to be perfect) then everybody's live will be better.

I think I should just get ADSL and be done with it. At least I know I will have to wait 6 weeks.

We have a high site on Helderberg (amongst others) and I was invited to their launch in Cape Town where I was given a goodie bag, fed and watered and given a long spiel by their sales people about how useless 087 numbers were and how wonderful their service is.

Unfortunately the sales guys lost interest when they realised we want service at our offices are in leafy Somerset West and not in Main Rd, Newlands.

When I asked them when they'd have coverage in Somerset West, I was told that they were having problems securing a high site. When I offered them mine, Ian van Rensburg who'd been schmoozing us referred me to some British guy who was supposed to be their chief technical offiicer.

I gave him my card and was told; "We've looked at Helderberg, but there are power issues up there". I thought to myself; "Yes, that's why we spent a small fortune putting our own solar panels and wind generators up", and never heard from him (or Neotel) again.

It subsequently turned out that Neotel partnered with a local bunch called Victoria Cash Store / AWS and have an access point on a tower that's probably illegal in Victoria Road, Somerset West that they appear to be sharing with a WISP, but the signal is bad (I wonder why...) and they are only offering the "lite" product.

The whole thing's a bit of a joke if you ask me.

Ok, VCS - that explains the coverage range then. I assumed it was the bottle store at busy corner as that is the tallest building in main road.

We are also waiting for coverage in Halena Av, Helderberg for our new office and this sounds a bit off-putting. bummer

Getting quite depressed with the coverage in CT. Nothing has happened to prime coverage for weeks now. Are they proud of their lite coverage? No thank you.

Southern Suburbs

Some of the Southern Suburbs are covered. I've been on the 10 gig Prime package for the past month and a half and I live close to Tokai.

I think they've selected the area to start because of the Steenberg business park area.

looks like they using Plessey tower - well by looking at the map - I guess.

It is a small "cell" half of which covers Retreat , Steenberg ,Lavender Hill all due respect to the folk , but thats not high on the earnings scale if you ask me.

Why not bum a spot on the Military road Telkom Tower ? That will at least get Lakeside upto Muizenberg and Marina and Capricorn Business park ????

For that matter - why not Cinnabar as a high spot?

Like the great Beyonce Knowles sang:To the left to the left!
Towards Bergvliet/Diep river/Plumstead area,as their coverage ends at Bergvliet road.
Neotel,thats all i want for Christmas.Amen.

The Cape Town coverage map is actually the problem a lot of the time. It isn't really kept up to date. I checked with my local postnet and they say they've been installing prime devices all over my suburb. This is despite the fact that there coverage map shows no coerage for several kms.

Now all I need to do is wait for Neoflex

Next List

Perhaps the Neotel mybroadband rep can post a list showing expected new coverage and approximate dates. Preferably not just in Cape Town, but the whole country.

They must have such information, which cannot be "secret". The less such information posted into the public domain, the greater the expectation that there service is more like telkoms.

The lesson here is to communicate "Effectively" with your customers.

A communication company communicating with there potential customers - Christmas wish.

I went into Autopage Cellular in Plattekloof after looking at poster in window. I enquired about Neotel and was told they not in the area. My next question was therefore how they can offer it in the area. The sales guy could not answer.

I called Neotel this morning about Neoflex and got the proverbial run around.

I think this product launch was pushed back indefinately. The router was mentioned in a pdf I found under Neoflex Voice for business. The pdf was changed and all mention me the router was removed. I downloaded both.

That is not good, they won't get me signed up until that router is available and functioning properly.

Well Somerset West reliability and QOS has improved in the last month. I've only had one drop in 4 weeks and that was @ 2:00am in the morning.
