Has Momentumnet lost your personal information too?

I received a phone call last week from Momentumnet last week saying that they had lost some personal parameters during an upgrade. I obviously refused to give a stranger my details.

I called them today to report an error, and the consultant confirmed that they had lost parameters during a system upgrade. The consultant could not answer a single question about restoring the personal information from a back-up, neither about whether the information could be restored from clients' application forms. My ID number, banking details, name, surname and phone number had to be re-captured.

This obviously raises many questions about Momentumnet as a custodian of personal information. They have failed to disclose to clients that their personal information had been lost, and that there was no back-up from which to retrieve it.

I would be more concerned if the personal information was exposed to a 3rd party, also depends, what information was lost.

Maybe they lost every one's phone number and email addresses :p

They have also lost people's bank account details. My service was suspended because they could not effect a debit order.

i wonder if they have a signature or an application form of their clients on record, or if that was lost too. That does throw up several issues.

It is strange because when a gentleman from Momentumnet emailed me requesting my details, he confirmed that all other personal details were intact. This turned out not to be the case:

...

As per our telephonic conversation can you please update your details with us?

All we need is the Telkom accountholder’s ID and cell number, all the other details are correct.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Kind regards

how did they fail to disclose the lost of personal information? you did get a call stating that parameters were lost //confused mode engaged

I would not have known that they lost my information had I not called them about another query. Before they started assisting me, they had to re-capture things as basic as my name and surname.

ok, now that's cleared up, can you define lost? Like printed and lost on the street or lost as in a backup failed and there was no recent tapes to restore from. IMHO this isn't really something to get upset about, yeah frustrating that you had to spend time again filling it out again, but hey, it's IT and gremlins do run amok sometime!
