Hi Folks

I was shown a new USB Hauwei modem in one of the Vodacom shops with the ability to connect two computers simultaneously via USB. They sell it for R3000 and it is not yet bundled on any of their products (or so the call centre tell me).

Does anyone know if MTN has this modem yet, and if so, whether it is available at a reduced rate on the prodata contract in the same way as the datacard?

Besides the special on the prodata contract, are there any other flexible contract options that give one a reduced rate on the data card without having to commit to a data bundle - like perhaps the mychoice 75 where the prepaid amount can be used for data, but carries over?

I've been told one can get the data card for free on a mycall 100 contract for R49/m, but the free minutes are then not useful during office hours, and I am looking for something that can be used at work. Nevertheless, does anyone know if the USB modem is available as an option on the Mycall 100 deal, as R1176 (49*24) is way cheaper than R3000?

Thanks for any advice

Good day,

I think you're talking about the Hauwei E220? We'll have this out shortly, in terms of carry-over we don't offer that as yet and what package it will be made available on I can't say as it hasn't been launched as yet but will keep you guys in the loop.

Thanks MTNDD - with the USB modem not yet available, what is the best option for accessing the card of those I listed above - i.e. R49pm on mycall100 vs. R9.99 + R1300 on prodata vs. something on mychoice 75?

Thanks

what i did was get the card on a mycall 100 R49.00 x 24 months, seems like a good price especially with the free minutes added, however i do see that the e620 is free according to our price lists on a mychoice 75 (75 and not topup, there is a R569.00 payin on the topup), that would be more practical i reckon if ure using it just for data, i mean the charges are the same:)

Thanks snakepit, exactly the info I was looking for. The mychoice option is the best deal for my requirements - now if only I could get the USB modem instead of the card.........

I got the mychoice 75 topup with a pay in of R139 2-3 months back.

Do not take their SIM. Get a prepaid and upgrade to Contract.

I look at it as getting R75 for R26 ( the difference between the mycall100 R49 and the R75) so you get 37.5BM for R26.

The mycall100 minutes can not be used for data, only for calls.

Once you have the data card get some prepaid SIMS and load R100 or R220 etc. as you need it and alternate the SIMS. This sorts out the rollover problem without having to pay R2/MB. Remember they want you to go over your bundle!!!!!!!!!

I have no problem with MTN now, only the incovenience of changing SIMS and I have to do that any way if MTN goes down and I am forced to use VC or VM

I would agree the MYCALL 100 is a very good option to go for

Thanks Sean

Could you elaborate on why it is better to upgrade from a prepaid SIM rather than taking the sim that comes with the mychoice?

Thanks again

eisch  that i have no comment on, data dude will have to advise.

Well for now, we've got the F@stlink USB modem that's EDGE and GPRS enabled and then if you want to use the current HSDPA PCMCIA card then you'll have to look at something like a USB to PCMCIA check here to see some of the things you can get http://www.microd.co.za/catalog/

Otherwise you can wait a couple of week's for the E220 then that would be the ideal choice

To squeeze the last bit of information - will the E220 be offered in the same way as the data card, or will it cost more when bundled in the packages discussed above? If so, any idea what it will cost from MTN? Thanks for the quick feedback.

The E220 will be the same price, contract plans I'm not sure of

That the SP would have to tell you
