Yes, KDA and ERG club NFTs, it does provide utility, but that is not what this thread is interested in. Since UBQ is going nowhere, I also dumped some in the NFTs on their chain, because what else could I do with it? I got some FIFA NFT memorabilia, but that I didn’t buy, and I have various other utility NFTs that I haven’t bought either. The only art NFTs I have are on the UBIQ chain.

To add, I have various SBTs, which are NFTs, but also not what this thread is interested in. It also costs almost nothing to mint, pending.

It's a scam, or about as exciting as virtual stamp collecting. So no.

Not really, depends on the NFT, there are NFT collections out there with good membership use cases. The NFT businesses that Gary Vaynerchuk, whom I don’t really like, have all been success stories.

It is also not long until NFTs are adopted as access mediums e.g., ticketing.

When people say NFT, all they see is copy-paste JPEGs, but that is not where NFTs start nor end.

In my personal view though, I don’t see NFTs displace current digital mediums. Not to ignore that there are too many chains.

Exactly as stamps. There's good use cases for stamps as well like when you needed to mail a letter.

No, but my daughter secretly bought a skin for a COD weapon when she just started working, and only told me recently, but before I finished inhaling to explode she quashed all objections by showing me she can sell it now for a R2.5k profit.

I guess not all intangibles are unprofitable..

How much did you spend on NFTs?

And you are wrong with a use-case like ticketing. With a ticket, the trust to redeem the value of the ticket will only lie with the venue providing the things that will be redeemed against said ticket. You don't need a blockchain to do that. A simple database can handle that perfectly fine.

And did she?

I have lots of NFTs. Some are duds, some are incredibly valuable.

I am slowly accumulating NFTs of gaming projects which I feel may be blue chip in future. The value proposition for gaming NFTs is a no brainer. The concept of true decentralised ownership, cross game compatibility, and community governance is an absolute no brainer. BUT, 90% of them won't make it because everyone's jumping on the hype train instead of focusing on drawing valuable contributors into the owners' community. A game that is doing this very well in this respect is MyPetHooligan.

I also own some 'DAO' NFTs, one of which grants me access to a community of 2000+ of the most technically capable web3 and software devs and builders I've seen, from all over the world. If i have an idea, I can reach out to anyone from full stack solidity/python/C++/unity devs, to artists, game asset creators, tokenomics experts, wordsmiths etc.

We collaborate and leverage our skills and community connections to build out new and interesting projects which add value and provide cashflow, albeit in crypto for the most part.

But I'm not here to sing the praises of NFTs. The niche is plagued with scammers and people who don't really understand economics and project management. Hence, many of them are doomed from the start. This is further obfuscated by hollow promises of 'more to come' and open ended roadmaps instead of actual products.

But I am here to say: The overwhelming majority of people do not understand what NFTs truly represent. As a global macro investor myself, and looking at the economic meltdown of the entire monetary system which is seeming increasingly inevitable, people vastly underestimate how important decentralised ownership will be in the next 5 to 10 years.

Once gamers realise they can buy an ownership stake in a cool game by owning an NFT character, play to level up, use their character across multiple games, then sell their high level character for a tidy profit when they are ready to move onto something new, is an absolute game changer in my view.

I would advise everyone in here NOT to buy an NFT. But i would also advise everyone to start learning about them so that perhaps you could capitalise on the opportunities as things become clearer in the coming years.
