Every year I get stuff for my sister and her family in Canada. Its been great.

Today I ordered something to be delivered in SA for the first time :) lets see how it goes.

Easy. For stuff you can order directly, it ships via Aramex or UPS and you prepay taxes and duties. Sometimes you even get a refund if SARS charges less. You are guaranteed to get the item you order. If it gets lost, Amazon will reship with UPS, for free, even if you chose and paid for Aramex.
You can do something similar on all the Amazon websites, for example Amazon CA, FR, DE, JP, etc.
If the item can't be shipped to your address it will usually indicate out of stock or during checkout you'll be told sorry. In that case either use MyUS or Aramex Global Shopper. You will also be guaranteed to get your item.
There are similar services for other countries, for example tenso in Japan and PostBox Courier in the UK.

I would then select the cheapest courier option, which can sometimes be FedEx Economy, or DHL.
 
Yes. The shipping can work out expensive. Sometimes the stuff comes from sellers external to Amazon. So the order is then packed in more than one parcel. Otherwise, Amazon's service is very good.

Amazon global shipping is actually affordable. In the old days you had to ship post office or ship via UPS. The UPS shipping was very expensive - more than it is now - and you had to hassle with the people to send them invoices and pay the duties to them before they released the item. I think the way they've done it now the shipping is cheaper.

Note that Amazon has a marketplace. Some stuff, which does not say fulfilled by Amazon may be sent by post office and may be slow as it does not originate from the Amazon warehouse. But with AZ Global, you pay one shipping fee even if they send it in multiple packets.

Can anyone share their experience using MyUS.com, are they legit firstly?
I’m currently considering them as they claim to be cheaper than shipping directly from Amazon. Has this been your experience too?

They are legitimate. Unlikely to be cheaper than Amazon's shipping though. They're useful for things that cannot be shipped directly and for consolidating shipping from multiple shops.

I cannot imagine that any third party would be cheaper than using Amazon directly - You typically use third parties when the they wont ship to SA.

Others can obviously add their experience to this.
 
I buy from Amazon, but you need to make sure the price and import duties are worth it. SARS takes a pretty big cut on stuff!

If you buy from Amazon, the import duties are prepaid when you pay Amazon and you can see the exact amount before completing the transaction.

So sad, the delivery date was the 20th but when I had a look on the site it said that they were unable to deliver and so refunded me.
I took it up with the local courier and they said the package never arrived.... or was damaged.

Funny thing though is that the currency has taken a dive so my refund is more than I paid :laugh:
I'd rather have the goods though so going to try again.
