Have you ever offered a bribe to get out of a sticky situation? Or been given the opportunity to pay one?

A "salary" to do a "shitty" job?

I've however been asked to do questionable things which I refused and reported of course.
 
Unfortunately I was forced to offer many times.
 
Offered a bribe and it was refused.

I had a doctor's appointment in Rosebank and couldn't find parking. A company opposite the hospital had free parking for their customers. Tried to bribe the security guard but he wouldn't let me in.

Also inadvertently paid one at Randburg Home Affairs. A guy called me out of the looooooog queue and I followed him around the side of a building to a counter where there was no queue. I was attended to immediately. Got my docs a couple of weeks later and realised I'd overpaid.

Would do it again I'm sorry to say

Both and said no both times... Ended up paying the fine, and it was less than the bribe would have been.

As far as discussing terms without my CTO around, you know, after hours design and dev, told the nice man in the cheap suit to take a hike.

Many times I have been intimidated to try and extract a bribe from since 1994. I have consistently and steadfastly refused them all except one.
On a trip to the DRC, I finally found the missing page in my passport just before being loaded into a van on its way to the Kinshasha jail.

I also had to do the same to get my undeebridge certificate . We need to bribe people to just do their job...
 
Once was given the option to pay a small traffic bribe. Wanted to say no, but felt at personal risk to do so so paid it.
 
Story time...

My flight from Munich to JHB was delayed so I had like 15 mins to get on the connecting flight from JHB to CPT. I went to the desk at international arrivals and explained the situation and they pointed towards another *airport employee* and said he will get me to the gate (and through security) quickly. Halfway there he said something to the effect of "you're going to make this worth my while, yes"? A little confused (this is his job, yes) I made the mistake of saying "okay" and opening my wallet which only had a single R20, a couple of R200's and euro notes. I offered the R20 note to the guy and he immediately pointed towards the R200 and said "I want that". "Not happening, pal" I said and before I could even put my wallet back into my pocket, the guy had vanished.

That was the point at which I realised that I was home.

I have been offered a bribe on occasion, but I have a no gifting policy.
 
Have a good friend who was offered a bribe(s) by a Russian oligarch. He went to Moscow and wanted to open a group of coffee franchises. Transferred from the airport by chauffeur and Maybach limo into city on a reserved lane used for vip politicians. Arrived at a 5 star hotel and then oligarch made his pitch incl guarantees of trade for kickbacks, etc as he said he controlled large parts of Moscow. Needless to say, as a good German, he said Nein and was on the first plane home. A slippery slope indeed...
 
My phone scares the living daylights out of cops. It's always attached to something and facing me (music, podcasts, etc). Whenever they stop me, I wait until they're at the window before I pause whatever I was listening to. I don't get stopped very often so...

I've been offered bribes before. I told the guys to never call me again if that's how they operate. I never did any business with them.
