I would like to see data bundles rollover for 3-6 months, much like my free minutes do. Eventually I do forfeit some, but as they have rolled over for awhile, I accept that. Why not with data bundles?.

Rushed? Two years is anything but rushed. I'm getting the idea that nobody at Vodacom knows anything about M-O-D-U-L-A-R-I-T-Y. This is not nuclear physics, we are not talking about designing a new system, only changing part of one that already works.The modern cowboys - IT.... For every real professional there must be a hundred irresponsible cowboys.
Somebody get's an idea, "sells it to management", implementatation is rushed and late, then a few million to market it, then sell, then train staff....
Banks locally are famous for it - after all the customer pays..![]()
This is how I see Vodacoms systems atm.What v3g meant there, is that Contract Data Bundles first need to be changed to allow them to run for at least 30 days outside of the confines of any particular calendar month, currently all CDBs run from the 1st of a month to the end of that same month, whereas PPDBs run for 30 days and can span over 2 consecutive months. So, a change needs to be made to make CDBs more flexible, e.g. if you add an Ad-Hoc CDB today, the 14th of June 2007, then the system(s) need to be changed to allow that Ad-Hoc CDB to expire on the 13th of July 2007, and not the 30th of June 2007 which is currently how the system(s) work. It is easy to say that one should just go and change one line in the code for only one of Vodacom's Data Bundle management sytems to extend its validity window from calendar month to say 90 days, but I think that you will see it is not quite that easy, and especially not when one considers that there are other systems involved as well, e.g. the billing system that would probably have a hissy fit and start charging for a rolled-over data bundle that was not yet depleted.
I'm just saying that, as an outside observer of Vodacom's systems, I think I have a fair idea of the complexities involved, but mostly I just needed to clarify the context of v3g's post that you jumped all over him for.
You'll notice I didn't post on the forum for a week so it would be fairly easy if push comes to shove and there's always VM as backup.You first mate![]()

I disagree, it's use it or lose it. I can add airtime, keep my balance, and extend my window. I can't buy a bundle, keep what I already have, and extend my "window". It's something completely different.HiWelcome to the forum. Well the window period on the ppdbs is 30 days. Hopefully with rollover that can be extended to a longer period.

This is how I see Vodacoms systems atm.
Prepaid 12:00 AM:
for (i=bundle 1; i++; i<bundle_count)
if (bundle.expire == current_date)
delete bundle;
Bundle purchase:
if (!bundle || !bundle.usage)
new bundle(x,30);
Contract 12:00 AM 1 xxx xxxx:
for (i=bundle 1: i++; i<bundle_count)
{
delete bundle;
if (bundle_set)
new bundle(x);
}
Now all customers are asking for is that the expiry be set from 30 to y where y >= 90 days or remove the part that runs at 12:00 AM every night. Now contract bundles do run for 1 month (+-30 days already) but the ad-hoc bundles are probably the most popular and should have a system similar to the prepaid bundles if Vodacom did it right in the first place but they seem to treat them as contract bundles.

On Virgin you would have only paid R217 for june assuming it's from from the start to the end of the month as opposed to R289. Even from april to may it would have cost you R961 in total on Virgin as opposed to R867. Keep in mind that Virgin undercharges by about another 10% and Vodacom really isn't that cost effective for you. The point of this is that Vodacom may not think much about stealing what you paid for but at the end of the day they are driving customers away with their unethical conduct not to mention that I can't buy a bundle at this moment besides having enough for 2.[OUPA]MrNutz;1099137 said:i purchased 1gb data volumes for april , may , june
for april i had 90meg left
for may i had 230meg left
for june i had 530meg left.
and they were all lost - due 2 no rollover being in place
850mb isn't that much - but 850mb would last a lekker while with my current usage trend.

Under the title "Winning Letter" the editor makes the following comment "In respect of carrying over any used data bundle megabytes, Vodacom now allows its customers to carry over any remaining bytes to the next month"... am I missing something or does the editor know something that I don't?
