Seeing as the most expensive prepaid bundle per megabyte is the 500MB bundle for R189 which works out to R0.38/MB, so how can they justify charging more than 500% more for the non-bundle rate at R2/MB? :confused:
Sounds like you are about to derail the thread you started, best to start a new thread for OOBR debates, and keep this Data Bundle Rollover thread focussed on Vodacom's goal posts :).

Airtime on top up accounts can rollover for up to six months. Then why is it that bundles purchased with the very same airtime do not rollover at all?:confused:
 
Thats already allowed I think. :D Even rollover for one month like with contract minutes would be great.

Airtime on prepaid rollover indefinitely as long as it's used.

The forfeiting of unused data begs the question, is it constitutionally correct?
They've made the terms and conditions clear which you and I accept, so lawfully you don't have a leg to stand on. But what does the constitution say about citizens not getting their money's worth.

Constitutional & legal issues aside, in a competitive environment - especially now that Vodacom has launched PPDBs, Vodacom should be more concerned with retaining customers by giving them what they want, and in this case customers definitely want to get what they pay for, i.e. remaining bundled data that does not evaporate after 30 days or at the end of a calendar month...

With MTN taking flack from Vodacom for people not getting what they pay for this is a clear case of removing the beam from ones own eye first. Vodacom should be first to offer data rollover or get taken to court for defamation.
 
From my personal experience at work with ADSL, contract packages get reset at month end (unused data is lots) and prepaid packages rollover indefinitely. Vodacom and MTN want to promote themselves as a better alternative to ADSL, but how can they do so without providing at least the same benefits as ADSL?

Don't want to dash your hope, but we're not going to see roll-over very soon.

And although it won't be believed, it's not a commercial issue at all...:o

Seeing that it took 2 years for ppdbs to come into effect when prepaid sms bundles were already available I could believe that since changes are required for the contract system it would not be possible on contract very soon for valid but completely unnecessary reasons. With the prepaid system the bundle is actively removed from the account after 30 days so there's no excuse unless Vodacom literally hardwires the functionality into their systems. :rolleyes: But then I'll believe absolutely anything no matter how twisted or backwards it is from the rest of the world. :p

Prometheus makes a good point in that contract bundles are reset at the start of the month while prepaid expires after 30 days, so in fact these are two different systems.

Also, if Vodacom's mummy (read: Telkom) has the capacity to allow rollover on prepaid adsl accounts, maybe the expertise (if it exists:rolleyes: ) can be passed on.

Vodacom's data customers would be much less inclined to throw tantrums when experiencing throughput and other problems preventing them from using the data bundles they are paying for, if Vodacom allowed data rollover - if customers know that their data doesn't just evaporate at month-end or in 30 days, then customers will generally be more patient.

A minimum of 90 days for data rollover is required bcos problems plaguing the network often span across 2 calendar months, so a 3 month data rollover period is required as a show of good faith on Vodacom's part - especially when there are widespread problems...

Apart from that, allowing customers more time to use up their data bundles, will result in customers buying larger data bundles and not trying to use them up in a mad rush before month end or 30 days, which will benefit all of Vodacom's data customers as the network as a whole - especially base-stations, will be less congested.​
