Hay Fever Advice Pls!

Lazarus strikes again!

I got rid of my hayfever! no more pills / injections / runny nose / watery eyes etc. for nearly 13 months now so I thought I'd share it here - maybe it helps someone?

even my Dr is amazed!

a simple flushing method nothing new - although I have tried it in the past before with no positive effect, but as I wanted to do my flight training I really needed to stop all medication and having watery eyes & a sneezing attack while flying could be detrimental to your health!

got a hayfever attack while at the club (standing on grass) and when I got home in desperation I flushed out my nose with cold water. then used some Bactroban cream and an ear bud to spread cream inside my nostrils. this helped quite a lot.

so I got into a habit of deep flushing my nose in the morning and spreading Bactroban cream inside. eventually I stopped the cream but continued with the deep flushing using a baby nasal suction bulb I bought from a chemist, by deep flushing I mean your nostrils must be "squeaky" clean - no mucus slime left in the them!

why it works I don't know except this method works for me, got my pilots licence and I'm still hayfever free to this day.

Neti pot

Not that your post isn't informative, but is it not possible pollen levels have been low the last 13 months? Same here, I haven't popped a pill or had more than the odd normal sneeze in the same period, whereas 15 months ago I needed a cortisone injection just to become semi functional again for two weeks.

So the last year I've had no issues and I haven't been taking anything or used a neti pot.

When u say running water through your nose, were you using a neti pot with salt water?

no - just squirting water in through my nose. this had no effect in the past. the only thing I've changed now is the physical scrubbing part till it's squeaky clean also I don't use salt water. I boil a supply of water and use that.

Pollen is not my main irritation. what triggers my attacks are - dust / bright sunlight / smells as in smoking, perfume etc. / grass / specially freshly cut grass / animals etc. I even tested it out by visiting a family member who has too many dogs and she knows why I don't visit her on a regular basis, so she was surprised to see me and the fact that I could sit there with her dogs without any signs of an attack.

during my flight training I've been in situations that would normally trigger an attack and have had non. Fisantekraal is basically a dust bowl except for the concrete runways and it's always blowing there plus when we are not flying or waiting for a flight we sit under a tree surrounded with grass.

the method I now use in the morning simply works for me. I'm off my daily meds FEXO 180's which I was on permanently - even alternating every 6 months with something else to make sure I don't get immune to FEXO. No more injections and some times I have had 3 of them like 2013 / 2014 that was a bad year :(

why it works or how it works is immaterial to me, I'm just glad I can enjoy things without having to worry about an attack or if I have meds with me or not.
